Fidelity Memorial Group | Apprentice Funeral Director (Full-Time)

Position Summary The Apprentice Funeral Director assists in all facets of funeral home operations, from initial transfer to final disposition. Under the direct supervision of licensed staff, the Apprentice will learn to guide families through the arrangement process, conduct services, and prepare the deceased. The primary objective is to provide exemplary customer service, ensuring families receive the highest level of care, dignity, and respect during their time of need.

Key Responsibilities

• Family Care & Service Direction
• Direct funeral and memorial services, including greeting, seating, and assisting guests and family members at the funeral home, cemeteries, churches, or other venues.
• Maintain excellent communication, empathy, and absolute respect toward grieving families at all times.
• Learn to finalize arrangements, conduct full-service ceremonies, and accurately produce funeral contracts, memorial packages, and applicable forms.
• Prepare obituaries and assist families with necessary administrative tasks.
• Care & Preparation of the Deceased
• Complete or assist in the respectful removal and transfer of decedents from residences, hospitals, care facilities, and coroner offices.
• Perform strict verification of the deceased and meticulously review all required legal documentation.
• Assist with the preparation, dressing, and casketing of the deceased for visitations and services.
• Operate the crematory safely and efficiently (if applicable and certified).
• Operational Support & Administration
• Participate in the overnight and weekend on-call rotation to answer phones and perform after-hours transfers.
• Accurately prepare and file legal paperwork, including Death Certificates and permits.
• Actively participate in community organizations, positively representing the interests and reputation of the funeral home.
• Perform other operational and facility duties as assigned by the Funeral Home Manager.

Job Requirements & Qualifications

• Licensing: Ability to obtain and maintain an active Apprenticeship License issued by the State of South Carolina (Beaufort).
• Transportation: Valid driver’s license with a clean, insurable driving record.
• Physical Demands: Ability to safely lift, push, pull, and carry 75+ pounds regularly.
• Availability: Willingness and flexibility to work a non-traditional schedule, including night shifts, weekends, and on-call rotations.
• Professionalism: Strict adherence to the funeral home’s formal professional dress code and grooming standards.
