Senior System Architect

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior System Architect based in United States.

This role offers the opportunity to design and evolve mission-critical software systems supporting complex defense and national security initiatives.
You will lead architecture, integration, and modernization efforts while translating operational needs into innovative technical solutions.
Working across multidisciplinary engineering teams, you will guide research, prototyping, and product development activities.
The position combines deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and hands-on leadership to deliver secure and resilient mission capabilities.

Accountabilities:

The Senior System Architect will provide technical leadership across complex engineering programs, driving system architecture, modernization initiatives, and mission-focused technology solutions. This role requires strong collaboration skills, strategic vision, and the ability to guide teams through highly technical challenges.

  • Lead the architecture, integration, and modernization of mission-critical systems supporting defense and government programs.
  • Translate customer mission objectives and operational requirements into innovative technical architectures and scalable solutions.
  • Guide multidisciplinary engineering teams through research and development, prototyping, testing, and productization activities.
  • Develop and implement secure communications strategies, cyber resilience approaches, and mission assurance capabilities.
  • Drive technical transformation initiatives, including modernization of legacy platforms and adoption of emerging technologies.
  • Provide technical mentorship, coaching, and leadership to engineering teams to promote innovation and engineering excellence.
  • Support technical strategy development through customer engagements, briefings, proposal activities, and external partnerships.
  • Evaluate technical risks, define mitigation strategies, and support continuous improvement across engineering programs.
  • Apply systems engineering principles and modern development methodologies to deliver reliable and effective solutions.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in systems engineering, software architecture, and mission-focused technology development. They should have strong leadership abilities, advanced technical knowledge, and experience working within complex engineering environments.

  • Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 15+ years of experience in systems engineering, mission systems architecture, software development, or related technical fields.
  • Proven experience designing and integrating complex systems and software solutions.
  • Experience with SysML, Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), architecture tools, and COTS/GOTS integration.
  • Strong understanding of secure systems design, cyber resilience, and mission assurance concepts.
  • Experience leading engineering teams, mentoring technical professionals, and building high-performing teams.
  • Familiarity with Agile and SAFe methodologies, technical risk reduction, and iterative development approaches.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively with engineers, customers, and executive stakeholders.
  • U.S. citizenship required, with the ability to successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.
  • Experience leading R&D portfolios or serving as a Principal Investigator on mission-focused innovation initiatives is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Risk Management Framework (RMF), AI/ML-enabled security, Zero Trust architectures, or specialized IT frameworks is a plus.
  • Experience transitioning research concepts into operational capabilities and customer-facing solutions is preferred.
  • Technical certifications such as Scrum, SAFe, or INCOSE are a plus.
  • Experience authoring technical publications, whitepapers, patents, or intellectual property contributions is beneficial.
