Full Job Description:

The Quality Engineer supports Triton’s Quality Management System and daily production activities by developing process controls, creating structured problem solving, improving inspection methods, and ensuring compliance with internal and external customer requirements. This role focuses on defect prevention, reduction of scrap and rework, and improvement of first pass yield across fabrication processes including laser cutting, press brake forming, CNC machining, manual machining, welding, powder coating, assembly, and shipping.

Quality Management System (QMS) Support

• Maintain and improve compliance with ISO 9001:2015 and customer-specific requirements.
• Develop, update, and control quality documentation, including work instructions, process flows, inspection plans, control plans, and PFMEAs.
• Support internal and external audits, including audit preparation, execution, corrective action management, and follow-up verification.
• Conduct process audits and layered process audits across all production areas.
• Identify gaps in the QMS and collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement systemic improvements.

Procedure Development and Improvement

• Develop and improve quality procedures to enhance process consistency, reliability, and compliance.
• Work with Engineering and Operations to implement standardized methods for fabrication, forming, machining, welding, powder coating, and assembly processes.
• Support introduction of new processes, equipment, fixturing, and inspection methods.

Data Collection, Monitoring & Analysis

• Collect, analyze, and report quality metrics including scrap, rework, internal PPM, FPY, and defect trends.
• Conduct data-driven investigations and build Pareto charts, SPC charts, capability studies (Cp/Cpk), and trend analyses.
• Present weekly quality performance metrics to Leadership, highlighting risks and improvement opportunities.
• Support Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) tracking, reporting, and reduction initiatives.

Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA)

• Lead structured problem solving using 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, and other industry-standard methods.
• Facilitate cross-functional root cause analysis related to internal defects, customer complaints, supplier issues, or process failures.
• Implement durable corrective actions and verify long-term effectiveness.
• Manage and close corrective action requests (CARs), supplier corrective actions (SCARs), and internal NCRs.

Production Support

• Provide daily technical support to production areas for quality concerns, print interpretation, inspection escalation, and process deviations.
• Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections for fabricated, machined, welded, and coated components as needed.
• Support operators in understanding inspection methods, defect criteria, and drawing/ GD&T interpretation.
• Participate in weld quality reviews, destructive testing, powder coat thickness/adhesion checks, and material verification.
• Collaborate with Supervisors and Engineers to troubleshoot equipment, fixturing, or process issues affecting quality.

Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)

• Prepare and maintain PPAP documentation per customer requirements, including:
  Control Plans, Process Flows, PFMEAs, MSA, GR&R studies, Capability Studies, First Article Inspections (FAI), IMDS, and other required elements.
• Review and validate measurement results and ensure PPAP packages meet customer expectations before submission.

Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)

• Participate in new product and engineering change reviews to ensure smooth product launches.
• Identify potential risks through PFMEA updates and implement preventive controls.
• Validate new processes, weld fixtures, brake tooling, laser programs, and inspections prior to release.
• Assign and track pre-launch action items to ensure compliance with customer-specific requirements.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years in a manufacturing quality role (metal fabrication strongly preferred).
• Working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 and customer-specific quality requirements.
• Strong understanding of GD&T, engineering drawings, and fabrication prints.
• Experience with PPAP, APQP, MSA, Capability, and structured problem solving.
• Familiarity with welding, machining, laser cutting, press brake, and powder coating processes.
• Experience with FARO Arm/CMM or similar metrology systems preferred.
• Strong analytical skills with ability to gather, interpret, and present data.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• High attention to detail, organization, and documentation.
• Proficiency with MS Office, quality software, and SolidWorks Inspection (preferred).
• Represent Triton professionally with customers, suppliers, partners, and auditors.
• Communicate quality concerns, alerts, and improvements to operators, group leads, and supervisors.
• Collaborate effectively with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and Leadership teams.
• Evaluate new gauge requirements for accuracy, suitability, and GR&R acceptability prior to procurement.
