Position Overview

The Joseph is seeking an experienced, highly organized, and people-focused People + Culture Generalist to join our People + Culture team.

Reporting to and serving as an operational partner to the Director of People + Culture, the People + Culture Generalist manages day-to-day team member and People + Culture matters while providing trusted support to leaders and team members throughout the hotel.

This is a hands-on role requiring strong knowledge across multiple areas of Human Resources, including team member relations, performance management, investigations, recruiting, benefits, payroll and HRIS coordination, leave administration, compliance, workforce planning, and team member engagement.

The ideal candidate is approachable, professional, highly confidential, detail-oriented, and comfortable balancing the needs of our team members with the operational demands of a luxury hospitality environment.

Key ResponsibilitiesTeam Member Relations & Manager Support
  • Serve as a trusted People + Culture resource for team members and leaders regarding workplace concerns, policies, procedures, and general employment matters
  • Provide guidance and coaching to managers regarding team member relations, performance concerns, attendance, conduct, and workplace expectations
  • Support the Director of People + Culture in fostering a positive, inclusive, professional, and service-focused workplace culture
  • Identify workplace trends and proactively partner with leadership to address concerns before they escalate
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive team member matters
Performance Management & Investigations
  • Support and administer the hotel's performance management and corrective action processes
  • Coach leaders on documentation, performance conversations, corrective actions, and performance improvement plans
  • Conduct and document fair, thorough, and timely workplace investigations
  • Gather statements, review relevant documentation, conduct interviews, and assist in determining appropriate next steps
  • Maintain accurate and confidential investigation and employee relations documentation
  • Partner with the Director of People + Culture on complex or sensitive employee relations matters
Recruiting & Hiring
  • Coordinate and oversee recruiting activities for hourly and management positions
  • Partner with department leaders to understand staffing needs and develop effective recruiting strategies
  • Manage job postings, candidate screening, interview coordination, offers, pre-employment requirements, and hiring documentation
  • Ensure candidates receive a professional and welcoming experience reflective of The Joseph's culture
  • Monitor open positions, time-to-fill, staffing levels, and other recruiting metrics
  • Support workforce planning efforts based on hotel occupancy, business levels, turnover, and departmental needs
Onboarding & Team Member Lifecycle
  • Coordinate the complete team member lifecycle from recruitment and onboarding through transfers, promotions, status changes, and separation
  • Ensure new hires complete required employment documentation and onboarding requirements
  • Partner with leaders to create a smooth transition for new team members into their departments
  • Process promotions, transfers, compensation changes, employment status changes, and separations accurately and timely
  • Conduct or coordinate exit interviews and identify trends that may impact retention
  • Maintain accurate and complete personnel records
Benefits & Leave Administration
  • Serve as a resource for team members regarding benefit eligibility, enrollment, qualifying life events, and general benefit questions
  • Coordinate benefits administration with applicable vendors and corporate People + Culture partners
  • Assist with annual open enrollment and benefits communication
  • Administer and track leaves of absence, including FMLA and other applicable federal, state, company, or legally protected leaves
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and communicate leave requirements, deadlines, and return-to-work expectations
  • Coordinate reasonable accommodation processes in partnership with the Director of People + Culture, as appropriate
Payroll, Timekeeping & HRIS
  • Partner with leaders and payroll resources to support accurate and timely payroll processing
  • Review timekeeping information and assist with resolving missed punches, discrepancies, and other payroll-related matters
  • Maintain accurate team member information within HRIS and payroll systems
  • Process new hires, terminations, compensation changes, transfers, promotions, and other employment changes
  • Assist leaders and team members with HRIS, timekeeping, and self-service system questions
  • Perform regular audits to help ensure data accuracy and compliance
Compliance & Policy Administration
  • Support compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and company policies
  • Ensure required employment documentation, records, postings, and acknowledgments are properly maintained
  • Assist with I-9 compliance and employment eligibility documentation
  • Support workplace safety, workers' compensation, unemployment, and other People + Culture compliance processes as assigned
  • Implement and consistently communicate People + Culture policies and procedures
  • Monitor policy adherence and escalate concerns when appropriate
  • Maintain organized, accurate, and confidential personnel files and records
Team Member Engagement & Culture
  • Support team member engagement, recognition, appreciation, and retention initiatives
  • Assist with hotel celebrations, recognition programs, team member events, surveys, and culture-building activities
  • Promote Makeready's Guiding Principles and The Joseph's commitment to exceptional hospitality
  • Build strong relationships throughout the hotel and maintain a visible, approachable People + Culture presence
  • Help identify opportunities to strengthen engagement, communication, morale, and retention
Workforce Planning & Reporting
  • Partner with the Director of People + Culture and department leaders to monitor staffing levels and workforce needs
  • Prepare and maintain People + Culture reports, dashboards, trackers, and metrics
  • Monitor turnover, vacancies, recruiting activity, attendance, headcount, and other workforce trends
  • Assist with audits and preparation of People + Culture documentation and reporting
  • Use HR data to identify trends and support informed staffing and people decisions
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Hospitality Management, Organizational Leadership, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive Human Resources/People + Culture experience, preferably in a generalist capacity
  • Previous experience in hospitality, luxury hotels, restaurants, or another high-touch service environment strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience handling team member relations, performance management, corrective actions, and workplace investigations
  • Experience with recruiting, onboarding, benefits administration, leave management, payroll coordination, and HRIS systems
  • Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws and Human Resources best practices
  • Experience supporting both hourly and management-level team members preferred
  • SHRM-CP, PHR, or similar Human Resources certification is a plus
Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of Human Resources principles, practices, and employment compliance
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to communicate confidently and professionally with team members and leaders at all levels
  • Strong judgment and ability to navigate sensitive and confidential matters with discretion
  • Effective investigation, documentation, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to coach and support managers while maintaining consistency with company policies and expectations
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced hotel environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, HRIS, payroll, applicant tracking, and timekeeping systems
  • Ability to analyze People + Culture data and identify trends
  • Collaborative, solutions-oriented approach with a genuine passion for supporting people
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, fairness, and consistency at all times
Schedule & Work Environment

This is a full-time, salaried position. Because People + Culture supports a 24/7 hotel operation, flexibility may occasionally be required to support team members working evenings, weekends, holidays, or other shifts based on business and employee-relations needs.
