Surgeons Choice Medical Center is a patient centered health care facility and physician owned destination of care focusing on all hand, joint, orthopedic and sports medicine. In 2004, in an ambitious push to bring hospitality back to the hospital, a small group of top Metro-Detroit surgeons decided to create their own surgical hospital; one that provided patients with the best possible care in a small, easy-to-manage environment that truly embraces the best patient experience. We have since become the premier center of choice with 30 surgical beds and 6 operating rooms.

Surgeons Choice Medical Center has an exciting opportunity for a Controller. An ideal candidate will has a passion to serve people to improve their quality of life and empower them on their health journey.

Responsibilities:

  • Controls and elevates all function and activities of the Corporate Finance Departments daily operations.
  • Manages the billing, accounts receivable and payable departments.
  • Assists/Advises administrators and department managers in relations to budgets, cost accounting, and revenue cycling.
  • All other financial operations.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting is required.
  • Master's Degree in Accounting preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of successful Controller/CFO experience required in healthcare.
  • 2-4 years of hospital experience is required.
  • 2 - 4 years previous management experience required over revenue cycle in a hospital setting.


Licensure/Certification:

· CPA is preferred, not required.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Knowledge of general accounting systems/procedures required.

· Individual must have strong spreadsheet skills and general ledger experience.

· Must possess excellent leadership, communication and organizational skills.

· Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Must be proficient in Microsoft Windows and Office products.

· Ability to detect and avoid errors in preparing and reviewing financial reports.


Duties and Responsibilities:

· Responsible for the organization’s fiscal operating results, financial reports, and statements, and administration of its accounting practices and systems. Responsible for reporting monthly financial performance to the board and serving as an administrative liaison to the board.

· Directs all fiscal activities including accounting, budgets, audit, taxes, the preparation of regulatory agency and government reports, and the systems and procedures necessary to ensure and maintain efficient financial control.

· Assists in third party audits. Works with auditors to ensure policies and control meet established standards and requirements.

· Directs, coordinates, and motivates subordinate staff to ensure that meeting established objectives and standards.

· Overall responsibility for the investment strategy and monitoring of all corporate funds and pension funds

· Responsible for hiring and conducting performance evaluations for subordinate staff and implementing all personnel actions in accordance with corporate policy.

· Assists CEO in strategic and long-range planning to meet current and future goals and objectives of the Corporation.

· Maintains an effective quality improvement program as evidenced by reports.

· Maintains departmental productivity measurements, reports status monthly.

· Directs department activities in a manner consistent with organization-wide programs and procedures.

· Establish department policies and procedures that reflect the organization’s standards.

· Develops performance goals/objectives with each staff member to promote maximum productivity, proficiency, and professional growth, as evidenced by written goals on performance appraisals.

· Recommends ways to reduce expenditure/enhance revenues without compromising quality of services.

· Supports the hospital’s mission, policies and procedures through attendance and participation during committee meetings.

· Manages and reconcile General Ledger.

· Provides interim financial reporting.

· Develop management reports.

· Prepares third party reimbursement cost reports of Medicare, Medicaid, and Blue Cross.

· Utilizes MACI, QAAP, and CHAP support.

· Analyzes the contractual allowance.

· Analyzes Physician contribution, for both partners and others.

· Analyzes the hospital department productivity, per stat metrics.

· Examines capital purchase, new product line, and real estate pro forma.

· Maintains debit Analysis.

· Manages revenues cycle using contract analysis/claims verification and charge capture review.

· Aides in analysis of overhead and practice by location.

· Oversee the revenue cycle.

· Responsible for preparation of monthly financial statements and other financial reports as requested by upper management.

· Analyzes financial statements and detailed expense reports to provide explanations of variances.

· Maintains confidentiality and complies with Hospital/department policies and procedures to aid in receipt of payment.

· Demonstrates initiative and follow through.

· Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department inter and intra departmentally to facilitate the department’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.

· Maintains HIPPA and other lawful practices.

· Performs all other duties as assigned.
