Job Description
The Saw Operator is responsible for operating sawing equipment, including the Hundegger machine, to cut lumber and engineered wood products according to optimized cut files, drawings, and production requirements. Reporting to the Production Manager, this hands-on role supports the accurate and efficient flow of materials through Paradigm Building Solutions’ high-end manufacturing facility.
The Saw Operator works closely with the production team to meet daily goals, maintain quality standards, and support a safe, organized, and efficient factory environment.
Note: Weekend Shift: Enjoy a condensed work schedule. This position works Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 12 hours per day. Employees who complete all three full shifts receive 40 paid hours for the weekend.
Saw Operation & Production
- Read and interpret construction drawings, production documents, and cut requirements to complete assigned work accurately.
- Use design software to create, prepare, and export optimized cut files to the Hundegger machine; training will be provided internally.
- Operate sawing equipment to cut lumber and engineered wood products according to optimized cut files and production specifications.
- Monitor sawing machines during operation to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and safe performance.
- Support production flow by reloading, staging, and organizing materials as needed to reduce bottlenecks in the shop.
Quality Control
- Inspect lumber and engineered wood products for defects, damage, or quality issues before and during production.
- Assess finished cuts and completed work to ensure components meet established quality standards and project requirements.
- Identify and communicate quality concerns, material issues, or equipment concerns to the Production Manager or appropriate team member.
- Work accurately and economically to reduce waste and support efficient material usage.
Material Handling & Organization
- Safely handle, organize, and stage construction materials, including lumber and engineered wood products.
- Maintain accurate records of material usage to support inventory tracking and production planning.
- Keep the saw area, materials, and workstations clean, organized, and ready for production.
Teamwork, Safety & Continuous Improvement
- Work collaboratively with team members to ensure production goals are met.
- Follow all company safety procedures, PPE requirements, and manufacturing safety protocols.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives that support productivity, quality, and workplace organization.
- Assist with other duties as assigned by management.
- Practical knowledge of residential construction, framing, manufacturing, or related building processes.
- Strong ability to read and understand construction drawings and production documents.
- Comfortable learning and using design software, machine controls, and production systems.
- Previous experience operating saws, CNC equipment, automated machinery, or woodworking equipment is considered an asset.
- Ability to physically perform production-related tasks, including standing, lifting, bending, and moving materials throughout the workday.
- Ability to handle construction materials safely and efficiently.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and quality of work.
- Good communication, teamwork, time management, and multitasking skills.
- Familiarity with safety protocols in a manufacturing or construction environment.
- Work is performed in a warm, dry, and safety-focused factory environment.
- The role requires hands-on work with lumber, engineered wood products, production equipment, and material handling activities.
- The position may involve standing for extended periods, repetitive tasks, and lifting or moving materials as required.
- Weekend Shift: Work Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 12 hours per day. Complete the full weekend schedule and be paid for 40 total hours.
- $23.00 - $30.00 per hour (based on experience).
