What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who is dependable, hardworking, mechanically inclined, and willing to learn. The right candidate does not need to have valve experience but should take pride in quality workmanship, accuracy, cleanliness, safety, and getting the job done right. This is an opportunity to learn a specialized trade and develop valuable skills in the natural gas valve repair industry.

Position Summary

We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Shop Valve Technician to join our team. This is a hands-on position responsible for the breakdown, inspection, cleaning, blasting, and preparation of valves and related components for repair work.

No prior valve experience is required. We are willing to train the right candidate. Mechanical, industrial, automotive, machine shop, or other hands-on experience is a plus.

Requirements:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Break down incoming repair work, including but not limited to:

  • Valves
  • Packing cases
  • Wiper cases
  • Other valve-related components and assemblies
  • Complete detailed Samco As-Found Reports for incoming repair work.
  • Clean and blast torn-down parts in preparation for repair.
  • Properly identify, organize, and maintain components throughout the repair process.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of the breakdown area and shop equipment, including but not limited to:
    • Cleaning dust collectors
    • Cleaning filters
    • Removing debris and maintaining general shop cleanliness
  • Follow all company safety procedures and shop requirements.
  • When there are no jobs in the breakdown room, assist in other areas of the shop, including the main shop, lapping room, wrapping area, or other duties as directed by the Shop Foreman.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Shop Foreman.

Qualifications

  • No prior valve experience required — training will be provided.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Previous mechanical, industrial, automotive, machine shop, or hands-on experience is a plus.
  • Ability to use basic hand and power tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document as-found conditions.
  • Dependable, hardworking, and willing to learn.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and work for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move parts and equipment as required.
  • Ability to work in a shop environment with exposure to dust, noise, cleaning processes, and blasting operations while using required PPE.

Compensation

Starting pay: $18.00 per hour and up, based on experience and performance.

Opportunities for increased compensation are available as employees develop their skills, knowledge, productivity, and ability to perform additional shop duties.
