Position Summary
RJ Lee Group is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Laboratory Technician I to join our Powder Metals laboratory team. This position supports the preparation, characterization, and testing of metal powders and related materials using established laboratory methods and analytical techniques. The successful candidate will be responsible for sample preparation, instrument operation, data collection, and maintaining laboratory equipment while adhering to RJ Lee Group's quality and safety standards.
This role is ideal for an individual with a strong scientific background, excellent attention to detail, and an interest in materials characterization and analytical laboratory work.

This position supports the preparation, characterization, and testing of metal powders and related materials using established laboratory methods and analytical techniques. The successful candidate will be responsible for sample preparation, instrument operation, data collection, and maintaining laboratory equipment while adhering to RJ Lee Group's quality and safety standards.
This role is ideal for an individual with a strong scientific background, excellent attention to detail, and an interest in materials characterization and analytical laboratory work.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare powder metal and related material samples for laboratory testing and analysis using established procedures.
- Perform sample preparation activities including grinding, sieving, blending, weighing, mounting, and other preparation techniques as required.
- Conduct routine physical and chemical testing of powder metals, alloys, raw materials, and manufactured products.
- Record, review, and organize analytical data in laboratory information systems and client reports.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance checks and calibration verifications following laboratory quality requirements.
- Follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), quality assurance protocols, and laboratory safety requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory work environment.
- Assist analysts, scientists, and project managers with testing projects and technical investigations.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, quality, and laboratory safety.
- Communicate effectively with laboratory personnel regarding sample status, testing schedules, and project requirements.
Education
- Associate degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering Technology, or a related scientific field preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or a related discipline preferred.
- Previous laboratory experience preferred.
- Experience with sample preparation, materials characterization, or laboratory testing is a plus but not required.
- Experience working with metal powders, additive manufacturing materials, or metallurgical testing is desirable.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to follow written procedures and maintain accurate documentation.
- Basic understanding of laboratory testing techniques and scientific principles.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams).
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced laboratory setting.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the laboratory for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry materials, equipment, and samples up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to safely handle laboratory materials and equipment.
