Position Overview
The TRUST Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations and direct service provision of TRUST, a rolling-admissions, milestone-based healing initiative focused on justice-involved young adults and young people most vulnerable to gun violence. The position is also responsible for the coordination of partners, staff, and materials needed to execute TRUST sessions, including but not limited to outdoor, work-based learning, healing circles, classroom-based workshops, and other activities. The TRUST Supervisor also provides on-site support, supervision, coaching, and training to TRUST participants. This position reports to the TRUST Lead.
Essential Functions
- Coordinate logistics of all TRUST sessions (work-based learning sites, healing circles, workshops, etc.)
- Collaborate with TRUST team to support recruitment and onboarding.
- Coordinate scheduling for all TRUST participants.
- Drive a passenger van to transport participants, tools, and supplies to work sites.
- Work closely with partners to implement sessions aligned with the program design and goals.
- Lead orientation, workshops, work-based learning, and feedback sessions to develop TRUST participants’ skills and support their progression towards milestones. This includes:
o Lesson planning
o Coordination and preparation of any additional facilitators
o Ensuring that materials and supplies needed are available and on location
o Taking participant attendance and noting engagement
o Provide direct supervision for TRUST crews, ensuring successful daily operations and crew safety.
o Lead projects and provide hands-on training to crews
- Provide leadership to TRUST participants, including:
o Holding participants accountable to expectations and community agreements
o Supporting next steps after TRUST
o Building and keeping, with the team, program-wide culture of community and care
o Building positive, caring relationships directly among participants
o Guiding participants in meeting personal and professional objectives
o In collaboration with TRUST teammates, support social and emotional growth and workforce development through formal and informal learning and coaching
- Document TRUST participant performance, engagement, attendance, and needs identified in accordance with reporting timelines.
- Attend team and staff meetings and other meetings, as necessary.
Qualifications
- Ability to establish and foster relationships with cross-sector partners and to work as a part of a collaborative team.
- Ability to motivate and guide disconnected and disengaged youth and diffuse conflicts.
- Excellent self-direction and the ability to take ownership and drive responsibilities through to completion.
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to adapt plans, be flexible, and take initiative to solve problems.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity and cultural competency skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- First AID/CPR Certification preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record, insurance, and ability to drive a passenger van are required.
- Successful submission of background checks
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years of working with justice-involved young adults or similarly highly vulnerable populations.
OR completion of Youth Development Practitioner Apprenticeship or equivalent program plus minimum 1-year additional experience working with justice-involved young adults or similarly highly vulnerable populations.
OR 5+ years working with justice-involved young adults or similarly highly vulnerable populations.
- Minimum two years experience in coaching, mentoring, or other supportive staff role.
- Experience in urban farming or connecting people with nature.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position involves both classroom-based and field-based work. Typical activities include:
- Working outdoors in extreme heat, cold, or rain.
- Frequent bending and heavy lifting up to 50lbs.
- Walking on uneven ground.
- Performing the operation of power tools, hand tools and complex power equipment and perform tasks with mechanical aptitude.
- Traveling to different locations within Philadelphia on a regular basis.
- Facilitating both virtual and in-person workshops and meetings using a variety of digital platforms, physical projectors, whiteboards, flip charts and vocal projection.
- Sitting for extended periods while using a computer, typing, and participating in video conferences.
