Job Overview

The Asset Protection Specialist is a front-line role accountable for the day-to-day safety and security of the people, product, and property at our office building. The position is the first point of contact for every visitor, helps secure product movement, monitors CCTV, supports audits, helps lead emergency preparedness and training, backs up the armed security positions, and responds to incidents, working alongside the Physical Security Supervisor and the in-house armed team.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Safety and Security of the Facility
    • Maintain a visible, professional presence that protects employees, visitors, and inventory during operating hours (8a-6p, Monday-Friday)
    • Check key areas regularly and enforce access-control, badge, and key procedures
    • Report hazards and security concerns promptly and follow up until they are resolved
  • Visitor Registration and Access
    • Greet, verify, and register all guests, vendors, contractors, and drivers at the front lobby; maintain the visitor log and badges, confirm each host, and arrange escorts where required.
    • Support badge and access-control procedures at building egress, flag unauthorized entry or tailgating, and prepare daily visitor and exception summaries for the AP Operations Manager and Physical Security Supervisor.
  • Product Movement Security
    • Monitor and document goods moving through the dock, elevator, storage, and transport handoffs, following dock receiving, elevator-window, and chain-of-custody procedures.
    • Confirm counts and paperwork at each handoff, report discrepancies immediately, and support the carried-goods and employee-goods processes.
    • Assist armed staff with high-dollar transport as directed.
  • CCTV Monitoring and Surveillance
    • Monitor live CCTV and alarm or duress alerts; log events and respond or escalate per procedure.
    • Review and preserve footage for incident follow-up, audits, and loss reviews per retention requirements, and report camera or system issues to the Physical Security Supervisor.
  • Auditing and Compliance
    • Conduct scheduled and unannounced audits of dock receiving, storage and inventory handling, access control, visitor logs, and carried-goods processes; support cycle counts and reconciliation.
    • Document discrepancies and corrective actions, track findings to closure, and report trends to the AP Operations Manager.
  • Emergency Preparedness and Training
    • Help develop, maintain, and drill the Emergency Action Plan (evacuation, shelter-in-place, lockdown, active-threat response), and deliver new-hire and recurring safety training.
    • Check emergency equipment and exits, and coordinate with law enforcement, fire, EMS, and building management as directed.
  • Backup for the Armed Positions
    • Back up the Physical Security Supervisor and Physical Security Specialist by covering posts and duties during breaks, absences, and peak activity, and serve as a second responder during incidents.
    • Where licensed and approved, backfill armed coverage when needed.
  • Incident Response
    • Respond to alarms, medical events, safety incidents, theft or loss, suspicious persons, and disruptive visitors; secure the area, call 911 when needed, and notify the Physical Security Supervisor.
    • Document every incident, preserve evidence and footage, support investigations and after-action reviews, and de-escalate conflict, escalating to armed staff or law enforcement when needed.
  • Additional Duties
    • Perform other asset protection and facility safety duties as assigned, wear the company-selected soft uniform (grey professional khakis, polo-style shirt, and vest), and keep sensitive schedules, inventory, and security information confidential.
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Must obtain and maintain the St. Louis County private security licensing applicable to the role, and pass a background check, fingerprinting, and screening per St. Louis County Private Security Division requirements.
  • High school diploma or equivalent with two or more years in security, asset protection, loss prevention, law enforcement, or the military.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR/AED certification and to complete active threat response and emergency preparedness training, with the qualifications to help deliver it.
  • Working knowledge of CCTV and access-control systems, and comfort with email, spreadsheets, and incident reporting tools.
  • Strong customer-service, communication, and de-escalation skills; clear written reports; discretion with sensitive information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a high-value goods environment (jewelry, precious metals, pawn, or retail loss prevention), and with inventory auditing, cycle counts, or CCTV/access-control systems.
  • Armed security licensing or eligibility, and reserve officer eligibility or current or recent (within 5 years) Missouri POST certification, to backfill the armed positions.
  • Training in emergency preparedness or active threat response; familiarity with FEMA Incident Command System (ICS) concepts.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, security management, or a related field; experience writing SOPs.

  • PTO: 15 days after 60 days of employment
  • Paid holidays and family leave
  • $250 annual attire reimbursement
