This is a senior engineering leadership role overseeing multiple software product families within a complex technology environment.
You will set the technical direction, strengthen engineering practices, and guide modernization across established software platforms.
The role combines people leadership, architectural strategy, delivery excellence, and forward-looking technology adoption.
A key focus will be developing a deliberate AI strategy for both engineering workflows and customer-facing product capabilities.
You will partner closely with Product Management, R&D, and business leadership to connect engineering priorities with customer and commercial outcomes.
You will also build scalable standards and practices that support distributed teams, future acquisitions, and long-term platform evolution.
This is an opportunity to shape engineering culture while balancing modernization, innovation, quality, and sustainable delivery.

Accountabilities
  • Lead and manage software engineering teams responsible for multiple product families, establishing clear priorities, structures, and performance expectations.
  • Define and continuously improve modern software development practices, including version control, code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, Agile methodologies, and engineering standards.
  • Own the engineering organization’s AI adoption strategy, evaluating AI-assisted development tools and workflows, defining adoption criteria, and measuring their impact.
  • Promote an AI-first, growth-oriented engineering culture that encourages experimentation, continuous learning, and adaptation to evolving technologies.
  • Drive measurable improvements in engineering throughput, release cadence, quality, and reliability using metrics such as cycle time, lead time, and defect rates.
  • Partner with Product Management and R&D leadership to translate product roadmaps and customer priorities into effective engineering plans and deliverables.
  • Establish and lead the technical vision for AI-powered product capabilities, identifying opportunities to create meaningful value across the product portfolio.
  • Anticipate technical debt, architectural risks, and scalability challenges, making timely decisions around remediation, refactoring, and re-platforming.
  • Own the long-term architectural vision, promoting scalability, maintainability, performance, and sustainable platform evolution.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop engineering leaders and teams, with a particular focus on strengthening team leads and building future people leaders.
  • Maintain a high hiring standard and participate actively in key interview processes to build a strong engineering organization.
  • Foster a collaborative, engineering-focused culture that combines scientific rigor with modern software craftsmanship.
  • Establish onboarding practices, engineering standards, and integration playbooks that enable future acquisitions and new product teams to be integrated efficiently.
  • Promote knowledge sharing, technical communication, and consistent engineering practices across geographically distributed teams.
  • Build succession plans, internal mobility opportunities, and long-term engineering leadership capabilities.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • At least 7 years of software development experience, including 3+ years in engineering management or technical leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience operating at Director-level scope, including defining engineering strategy, organizational structures, technical direction, and roadmap priorities.
  • Strong ability to anticipate technical and organizational challenges, make timely decisions, and act proactively without waiting for escalation.
  • Proven experience modernizing legacy development environments and guiding engineering teams through significant technology and process transformation.
  • Strong understanding of modern software architecture principles, including modularization, service decomposition, interface design, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft-based technology ecosystems such as .NET, C++, and VB.NET, with the ability to engage effectively in technical discussions across different technology stacks.
  • Experience introducing or evolving Agile practices within teams with limited historical process maturity.
  • Strong communication, leadership, mentoring, and collaboration skills, particularly when aligning engineering with Product Management and R&D.
  • Experience scaling engineering teams and delivering commercial desktop or simulation software is highly valuable.
  • Experience with Git-based development workflows, branching strategies, and DevOps automation is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Jira, Notion, Nave, or comparable Agile and engineering metrics platforms is advantageous.
  • Experience creating engineering practices and playbooks that scale across multiple teams or acquired products is preferred.
  • Experience managing geographically distributed or international teams and multidisciplinary engineering organizations is a plus.
  • Exposure to simulation, scientific modeling, or chemical and mechanical engineering domains is advantageous.
  • A pragmatic, growth-oriented mindset with the ability to balance modernization and innovation against business priorities and operational realities.
Benefits
  • Fully remote opportunity within the United States.
  • Senior leadership position with broad influence over engineering strategy, architecture, culture, and technology adoption.
  • Opportunity to lead multiple established software product families and shape their long-term modernization.
  • Significant ownership of AI adoption across engineering workflows and customer-facing product capabilities.
  • Opportunity to work cross-functionally with Product Management, R&D, and business leadership.
  • Environment focused on engineering excellence, continuous improvement, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Opportunity to mentor engineering leaders and build long-term organizational capabilities.
