Position Overview

As a Senior Project Engineer, you will play a key role within PCM's integrated EPC project delivery team, responsible for planning, coordinating and delivering major multidisciplinary infrastructure packages across utility-scale energy projects.

Working closely with the Senior Project Manager, Construction Manager, Engineering Manager, Commercial Lead and Project Controls team, you will lead project engineers, manage contractor interfaces, and drive delivery outcomes across disciplines.

This is a highly visible role suited to an experienced project delivery professional who thrives in complex construction environments and has demonstrated capability overseeing large work packages from design development through construction, commissioning and handover.

About the role

PCM is seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to support delivery of major Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), substation, transmission and power infrastructure projects throughout Australia.

Whilst candidates may have a background in electrical, civil, mechanical or power engineering, this role requires the ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary resources across complex EPC project environments.

You will:

  • Lead delivery of major multidisciplinary construction packages, ensuring delivery performance across safety, quality, cost and schedule objectives.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring and direction to project engineers and graduate engineers.
  • Support the Project Director and Senior Project Manager in achieving overall project objectives.
  • Lead package planning activities, develop delivery strategies, and identify constraints and implement proactive mitigation and recovery measures.
  • Manage design interfaces between engineering, procurement and construction teams.
  • Review technical deliverables, support constructability reviews, and coordinate RFIs, field design changes and interface management processes.
  • Resolve complex technical and construction issues.
  • Ensure multidisciplinary scope integration across civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and communications system
  • Support subcontract procurement, tender evaluation and contract award activities.
  • Manage subcontractor performance and commercial obligations.
  • Assist with forecasting, cost reporting, variations and claims management.
  • Identify commercial opportunities and risks impacting project outcomes.
  • Develop strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, consultants and suppliers.
  • Support testing, commissioning, energisation and handover activities.

About you

You are an experienced project delivery professional who combines strong technical capability with practical construction experience and commercial awareness.

You understand what it takes to successfully deliver complex energy projects and can confidently lead multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced project environment.

You will ideally have:

  • Degree qualification in Engineering (Electrical, Civil, Mechanical or related discipline).
  • 12+ years' experience in major infrastructure, energy, utilities or industrial construction projects - BESS, substations, transmission, renewable energy experience is favourable.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering large multidisciplinary construction packages.
  • Proven ability leading teams of project engineers and coordinating diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Strong understanding of EPC and D&C delivery models.
  • Excellent knowledge of project controls, planning, cost management and risk management principles.
  • Commercial and contractual experience managing subcontractors and supplier interfaces.
  • Strong understanding of construction, commissioning and project handover processes.
  • Exceptional communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • A delivery and solutions-focused mindset with a commitment to safety, quality and operational excellence.
