About This Position

Reports directly to the COO for Beacon Health System. Works as a dyad with the Chief of Oncology. Aligns with the Oncology Service Line Council for easy reporting and accountability.

Leads Oncology services throughout the BHS, ensuring that those services drive a value proposition that is superior in the market and a strategy that extends across the continuum of care. In a matrix environment with the leaders of each operating entity, the Vice President is accountable for the achievement of the growth and value based strategies for the clinical service line at the system level. Has significant management and operational responsibility for the oncology service line including, overseeing the planning, recruitment, budgeting, reporting, and day-to-day functions of multiple departments across the health system. Builds an effective partnership with operational, physician, ancillary and support leaders across the health system, ensuring shared goals, accountability, quality indicators and measurement standards are met while guiding the creation and growth of the Oncology service line. Works collaboratively with colleagues from within Beacon Health System and physician DYAD for the service line. Actively participates in the Oncology Service Line Council, composed of operational administrators and physicians.

  • Establish a comprehensive Model for Oncology defining strategic opportunities and priorities enabling accelerated program growth and development.
  • Oversees strategic and business development processes for the service line in collaboration and alignment with the overall system-wide strategic planning process.
  • Drive Oncology service line strategic growth for the health system.
  • Leads the development of the Oncology service line network both within the BHS, and in partnership with other local, regional, or national partners.
  • Create and execute the oncology growth plan, keeping in consideration the foundational building blocks, including physician recruitment, clinical leadership and expansion of subspecialized cancer services.
  • Collaborates with health system leadership and related entities to ensure that the assigned service line defines and delivers a superior value proposition, based on measurable outcomes in all areas including but not limited to quality, cost and service.
  • Ensures physician alignment across the BHS and develops partnerships across the continuum of care to ensure superior care in the market and best practice population management.
  • Create an outreach and access plan with a heavy focus on the BHS Secondary Service Area.
  • Collaborates with key stakeholders, including Finance, to develop and implement short- and long-term financial plans that ensure fiscal viability for the network and manage the service line margins.
  • Establish service level agreements between the service line and BHS campuses.
  • Develops and implements the service line operational plans ensuring efficient systems of care, as well as the development of leaders and staff.
  • Collaborates with IT and system leadership to ensure a shared vision around how clinical decision support can best support clinical service lines in driving value-based work across the service line.
  • Utilizes knowledge of current and future policies, practices, trends, competitive threats and other information affecting the business and organization to advance the service line and integrate innovative solutions into practice.

Organizational Responsibilities

Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:

  • Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
  • Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
  • Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
  • Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
  • Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
  • Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
  • Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
  • Complies with established organization and department policies.
  • Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience

The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a Master's Degree in Business or Health Administration. Demonstrated leadership skills in past positions consistent with and necessary to carry out the mission and leadership philosophy of BHS and the role of the VP are required. A minimum of ten years of experience in significant administrative leadership position(s), of which a minimum of five years' experience in applicable service line(s) is preferred; and demonstrated experience working closely with physicians (especially program development and/or partnerships) is required.

  • Requires high level knowledge of Beacon Health System's mission, systems integration, organizational development, managed care, capitation, cost/expense, reimbursement and trends and their implications upon the service line(s).
