Oversee the daily operations of The Night Ministry’s overnight shelter program, The Crib. Supervise program specialists support the mission of The Night Ministry by ensuring that the Crib program operates smoothly and efficiently, meeting all funding requirements.
General Purpose:
The Program Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the effective and consistent operation of The Night Ministry’s overnight youth shelter, The Crib. This role provides leadership and oversight to frontline staff, ensures compliance with agency and funder requirements, and upholds program quality and safety. Through a trauma-informed and harm reduction lens, the Program Supervisor fosters a safe, affirming, and developmentally appropriate environment for young people experiencing housing instability.
Role Qualifications:
- Expanded knowledge of working with at-risk/ homeless youth populations.
- Must meet all governmental, agency and grantors’ qualifications for the position.
- Must maintain a visible presence overnight (during operational hours) for maximum program oversight, staff support and guidance.
- Champion and endorser of Trauma Informed Care services, Positive Youth Development, Harm Reduction, Restorative Justice and promote safe, welcoming spaces for youth from all backgrounds.
- Able to implement and utilize effective conflict resolution strategies.
Position Responsibilities:
- Provide supervision and program oversight that spans a minimum of 75% Crib hours of Operation 8pm-10am.
- Hire, supervise, and train staff, including conducting required performance reviews, program orientation, onboarding, and ongoing training to ensure professional development.
- Maintain a monthly schedule for program specialist shifts; arrange coverage in the event of absences. Serve as backup coverage (work the shift) in the event no coverage is obtained.
- Serve as liaison between volunteers and program specialist staff.
- Ensure program audit compliance, representing TNM to auditors and auditing agencies in collaboration with team.
- Ensure supply inventory always meets operational needs.
- Ensure the facilities are clean and safe.
- Ensure that program specialists consistently and fairly implement program policies and procedures in accordance with TNM Values and Mission.
- Track and monitor program specialist's timecard and training records, paid time off, attendance at mandatory meetings.
- Manage food service operations through supervision of Food Service Program Specialist, willing to obtain food sanitation license purchase and selection of food.
- Facilitate weekly team meetings for program specialist staff.
- Attend all The Night Ministry all-staff meetings, departmental staff meetings and ensure direct reports attend mandatory training and meetings.
- Provide bi-weekly (at a minimum) supervision of all direct reports Program Specialists.
- Assure that case file documentation is completed by Program Specialist ETO and HMIS database.
- Ensure ALL Program Specialists are HMIS certified and have completed One System Initiative Training as required.
- Maintain certification in CPR, First Aid, and Blood borne Pathogens, and CPI (Non-violent Crisis Intervention) according to the schedule of training provided by the agency. Facilitate and foster cross-program coordination.
- According to The Night Ministry's policies, this position is expected to carry a cell phone and is eligible for partial reimbursement of monthly cell phone bills.
- Take the initiative, and perform other duties as assigned.
- Be available to provide tours of The Crib to volunteers and donors.
- Attend fundraising events sponsored by The Night Ministry upon request.
- Work collaboratively with Youth Engagement Services Manager and Youth Outreach Case managers.

Essential Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in human services or related field or post-secondary school and/or experience that equals 7+ years relevant supervisory in residential setting experience.
- Ability to respond to emergencies calmly and appropriately, in compliance with Night Ministry policies and procedures and values.
- Maintain a flexible schedule, including majority hours reflected and occasional weekend shifts to assure supervision of all direct reports.
- Must have valid driver's licensing and ability to operate 15 passenger vans.
- Must pass DCFS background check, which includes a criminal background check.
- Conflict resolution, group facilitation abilities.
- Strong communicator. Excellent written, public and presentation skills.
- Able to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
- Computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office, databases (HMIS, E-Cornerstone, ETO etc.).
- First Aid/ CPR/ food handling credential or ability to achieve.
- Must always act as a representative of The Night Ministry, and be an example to staff, residents, volunteers, and community members.
- Must react quickly and demonstrate good judgment and sound decision making in emergencies or stressful situations.
- Must be able to be on call for program support and crisis management.
Non-Essential Skills and Experience:
- Master’s degree in social services field.
- Spanish language skills.
