This is a high-impact technical leadership role focused on shaping the future of a large-scale, global SaaS invoicing ecosystem. You will define and drive the architectural vision for distributed systems powering mission-critical financial workflows used by hundreds of thousands of customers worldwide. The role combines deep backend engineering expertise with strategic influence across product and engineering leadership. You will lead modernization efforts that unify multiple platforms into a single, scalable architecture while reducing technical debt and improving system resilience. Working in a fast-paced, remote-first environment, you will collaborate with senior engineers and stakeholders to set technical direction and engineering standards. This position is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of architecture, scalability, and business impact in complex SaaS environments.
In this role, you will own the architectural direction of a global invoicing and fintech platform, ensuring the evolution of scalable, resilient, and high-performance distributed systems. You will lead modernization initiatives and provide technical leadership across backend services while aligning engineering execution with long-term business strategy.
- Drive architectural decisions across microservices and distributed system environments at scale.
- Lead backend modernization efforts, transitioning legacy systems into a unified, resilient platform.
- Improve system performance, scalability, reliability, and observability across global infrastructure.
- Design, optimize, and maintain high-performance database systems including MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and Redis.
- Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to define technical roadmaps and platform strategy.
- Establish engineering best practices across CI/CD, testing, security, and maintainability.
- Mentor senior engineers and elevate overall engineering quality and architectural consistency.
- Design and support complex system integrations across multiple invoicing and fintech products.
This role requires extensive experience in large-scale backend engineering and architectural leadership, with a strong ability to influence technical direction across organizations. You combine deep hands-on expertise with strategic thinking and excellent communication skills.
- 10+ years of software engineering experience focused on high-scale backend systems.
- 6+ years of advanced experience with Node.js, TypeScript, and JavaScript.
- Strong background in microservices architecture and distributed systems design.
- Deep expertise in MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and Redis, including performance tuning and optimization.
- Proven experience building and scaling REST APIs for web and mobile applications.
- Track record of leading technical strategy and driving complex architectural decisions.
- Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and backend performance engineering.
- Experience in fintech, invoicing, or payments platforms (preferred).
- Previous experience in Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, or Solutions Architect roles (preferred).
- Familiarity with observability practices such as distributed tracing, logging, and monitoring.
- Exposure to multi-tenant SaaS environments at scale is highly valued.
- Knowledge of React and Tailwind CSS is a plus.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Highly competitive USD-based compensation aligned with senior technical leadership roles.
- 100% remote work, offering flexibility to work from anywhere with a stable internet connection.
- Paid time off to support rest, recovery, and work-life balance.
- Autonomy and results-driven culture focused on outcomes rather than hours worked.
- Opportunity to work with leading U.S.-based companies on high-impact, large-scale projects.
- Collaborative, global environment with experienced engineers across 25+ countries.
- Strong emphasis on professional growth, technical excellence, and knowledge sharing.
- Supportive culture promoting well-being, inclusion, and long-term career development.
