The Senior IP Counsel will lead the development and execution of intellectual property strategies while providing practical legal guidance to support innovation, commercial priorities, and global growth. The role requires strong ownership of IP portfolios, collaboration with internal teams, and the ability to manage complex legal matters in a dynamic environment.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive global intellectual property strategy aligned with business, technology, and brand objectives.
- Build, manage, and optimize international patent portfolios covering software, technology platforms, user experiences, and related innovations.
- Partner with engineering, product, and research teams to identify inventions, assess protection opportunities, and support patent development.
- Oversee patent prosecution activities and coordinate with domestic and international external legal partners.
- Develop trademark and brand protection strategies to safeguard business assets across global markets.
- Conduct IP landscape analyses, competitive intelligence reviews, and freedom-to-operate assessments.
- Advise leadership on IP-related risks, opportunities, portfolio investments, and strategic decisions.
- Provide legal support for commercial agreements involving technology, licensing, SaaS, intellectual property rights, indemnification, and risk allocation.
- Educate internal stakeholders on IP best practices and encourage innovation awareness across teams.
- Support IP enforcement, licensing strategies, and risk mitigation initiatives.
- Collaborate with procurement, finance, product, technology, and business teams to enable effective contract execution.
- Manage multiple priorities while contributing to product launches, software lifecycle initiatives, and global expansion efforts.
The ideal candidate is an experienced intellectual property attorney with strong expertise in patent strategy, technology-related legal matters, and commercial contracting. They should combine legal knowledge with business judgment and the ability to collaborate effectively across global, cross-functional teams.
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited U.S. law school.
- Active admission to at least one U.S. state bar.
- 7+ years of intellectual property law experience, with significant experience in patent matters involving software, technology, gaming, or related industries.
- Prior in-house legal experience is preferred.
- Experience managing global patent portfolios and coordinating with external counsel.
- Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) preferred.
- Experience drafting patent applications and supporting patent prosecution activities is a plus.
- Knowledge of trademark portfolio management and brand protection practices.
- Experience negotiating complex commercial agreements involving technology, licensing, SaaS, or IP provisions.
- Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to balance legal risk with business objectives and provide practical recommendations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with online gaming, mobile platforms, software products, or emerging technologies is preferred.
- Ability to travel occasionally domestically and internationally.
- Competitive compensation with a salary range of $180,000 - $210,000 USD.
