Job Summary:
CAPS & Maple City is an organization dedicated to Supporting healthy, safe, and thriving children and families by providing quality, comprehensive services to all.
The Family Support Specialist works in partnership with other staff and referral sources to best serve families according to their needs through the provision of in-home case management, parent education, and resource navigation. Providing a range of culturally competent, trauma-informed support and services to all families seeking assistance from the agency.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Articulate materials and ideas with families in an easy-to-understand manner.
- Work in partnership with other staff and referral sources to best serve families according to their needs.
- Ensure all program evaluation and documentation are completed thoroughly and timely.
- Maintain accurate and timely electronic case files according to program time parameters and requirements.
- Assist individuals with navigating the support systems available in Elkhart County.
- Cross train and provide coverage for other programs if qualified and as needed.
- Attend supervisory, mandatory in-service, and all other appropriate meetings.
- Report any suspicion of abuse or neglect to the Department of Child Services immediately.
- Assist individuals in crisis, maintaining all individual and agency confidentiality.

Required Skills and Abilities:
- Functional Skills: Knowledge of infant and child development with an ability to establish trusting relationships. Acceptance of individual differences. Willing to engage in building reflective capacity (e.g., capacity for introspection, communicating awareness of self in relation to others, recognizing value of supervision, etc.) Exceptional understanding of family dynamics, effective parenting techniques, child development, domestic violence, and child abuse and neglect.
- Technology Aptitude/Skills: Fluency in all Microsoft Office products.
- Language Skills: Good oral and written communication skills. Comprehension of and fluent communication in English is required. Additional Comprehension of and fluent communication in Spanish is preferred.
- Leadership/Behaviors: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a wide range of individuals and diverse populations. Demonstrates excellent time management and problem-solving skills. Acknowledges and demonstrates CAPS & Maple City culture and core values.

Education and Experience:
- Must be 18 years of age with a preferred age of 21.
- GED or High School Diploma
- Certifications: Infant mental health endorsement preferred.
- Experience working with or providing services to children and families. Experience and humility to work with culturally diverse families. Preferred to be 21 years of age. Two years of professional experience teaching, instructing, or facilitating curriculum for adult learners is preferred. Experience working with diverse cultures is preferred.
Requirements:
- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, electronic devices, photocopiers, filing systems/cabinets, and fax machines.
- Ability to use hands and fingers and to reach for and handle objects to perform tasks frequently.
- Ability to write ideas/information in a logical flow frequently.
- Ability to read and respond due to the nature of the work on a frequent basis.
- Ability to talk and communicate with others via phone, in-person, and/or computer frequently.
- Ability to listen to customers, problem-solve, and respond frequently.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, stoop, kneel, squat, twist, push, pull, climb, and carry items frequently.
- Lifting up to 15 lbs. sporadically
- The employee will be responsible for working in a normal office environment with moderate noise and will be responsible for working in a client’s home environment during in-home visits.?
- This position is occasionally exposed to allergens such as but not limited to dust, mold, pet dander, toxic – nontoxic chemicals, unpleasant noises and/or combative situations.
- This position may face inclement weather conditions when traveling.
- Travel is moderate to frequent within and between Elkhart & Marshall Counties.
- This position on occasion requires work outside of regular office hours, including but not limited to evenings.
