Employment Status: Part-Time

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Schedule: 10 hours per week, to be determined by Director of Faith Formation & Youth Ministry Coordinator

Reports to: Pastor & Director of Faith Formation

Purpose:

To initiate a wholistic Youth Ministry in the parish. The position involves the recruitment, training and

supervision of a parish youth ministry team.

General Summary of the Position

A Christ-centered, innovative, visionary and passionate individual who leads the Youth Ministry team and

oversees the parish’s Middle School (6 th -8 th grade) and High School (9 th -12 th grade) initiatives. The Director of

Youth Ministry’s main objective is to form and lead the youth of the parish to be disciples of Christ.

The Director of Youth Ministry is self-motivated and able to perform key tasks independently in a timely

manner. This person should be a self-starter who enjoys working in a collaborative team environment and is

excited to be part of a growing Catholic community with a vibrant culture and innovative community. The role

requires a firm understanding of our Parish’s mission statement and values.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Creates, in collaboration with the Pastor, the vision and strategic direction of the Youth Ministry.
  • Plans, organizes and implements programs / experiences which provide a wholistic approach in meeting the need / interests of youth.
  • Responsible for recruiting, interviewing, training, retaining, and evaluating volunteers to serve as leaders and support aids.
  • Ensures programs adhere to and remain consistent with Catholic doctrine, moral, and social teaching.
  • Communicates with parents regarding the youth. Addresses any issues regarding youth with their parents or guardians.
  • Communicates plans for all events with youth, parents, and volunteers.
  • Plans and directs retreats.
  • Prepares a yearly calendar and shares with the Business Office to coordinate reservations and schedule of events; shares with DRE and Core Team prior to start of semester.
  • Develops annual budget in collaboration with the Pastor and the Business Office. Responsible for overseeing and managing expenses and submits a monthly financial report/budget.
  • Plans, develops and implements a schedule of service/social justice activities to develop the sense of responsibility to and awareness of the needs of the parish community.
  • Promotes active youth worship including participating in liturgy and prayer opportunities.
  • Ensures all team members are certified in VIRTUS child safety training.
  • Pursues ongoing formation and education to ensure personal spiritual development and growth.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Pastor.
Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Practicing Roman Catholic with a commitment to his/her own faith life.
  • Understands the importance of the parishioners and the community.
  • Possess a servant-leadership mindset.
  • Possess good listening and empathy skills; ability to recognize and handle problems within scope of job duties and to refer problems outside of the scope of job duties to the appropriate party.
  • Maintain a positive, upbeat, self-starting, solutions-centered, can-do attitude.
  • Be able to thrive with minimal supervision.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to set priorities and organize work effectively and efficiently.
  • Ability to compose correspondence, minutes and/or reports.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Advanced MS Office experience, including Outlook (email and calendar/scheduling), Word, PowerPoint, Excel; GoogleDocs, GoogleSheets, GoogleSlides; Apple (iOS) and various social media platforms experience including but not limited to Instagram and Facebook.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the function of the job.

Special Requirements

  • Must be up to date or complete the VIRTUS child safety training.
  • Must pass a background check.
  • The nature of this position requires a highly flexible schedule comprised of day, evening, and weekend hours.

Physical Demands

  • While performing duties, employee has to sit for long periods of time. The position also requires some standing, stooping, bending, and moderate activity.
  • While performing the duties of this position, employees may frequently lift 10- 25 pounds.
  • Employee is expected to work both remotely and onsite. Some travel is required throughout the year.
