About This Position

Position Description: Roles and Responsibilities:
The Youth Leadership Manager will advance the UP Partnership impact portfolio relevant to youth voice and leadership by engaging K-12, Higher Ed, and youth development partners across networks and collaboratives including Excel Beyond the Bell, My Brothers Keeper, Diplomas and all Future Ready Plan Implementation Partners. This person is responsible for: a) seeking best in class youth leadership and youth voice platforms and working collaboratively with partners to scale them, and b) coaching emerging youth voice and leadership tables to get started. They will work with a broad cross-section of Future Ready partners to accomplish these goals, while always lifting up impact stories and policy ideas. This position reports to the Director of Policy & Development. This is not a direct service position.

Specific responsibilities include:

Program Development
  • Seek out, study, understand and build a profile of a best-in-class youth leadership/youth voice platform.
  • Develop and oversee a comprehensive youth leadership program that supports Future Ready Bexar County goals and the broader policy and development work of the Public Engagement team.
  • Collaborate with schools, community-based organizations, and other stakeholders to identify and recruit youth participants that can inform current policy issues and opportunities.
  • Cultivate and develop relationships with youth development, K-12, and community partners to address educational inequities in alignment with the Future Ready Bexar County Plan.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness through data collection, surveys, and feedback to assess impact and opportunities for improvement
Strategic Advancement
  • Identify resources to inform planning by researching evidence-based practices and education and youth development policies.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to promote the youth leadership program development and showcase the accomplishments of youth leaders through various channels.
  • Stay informed about best practices in youth leadership development and incorporate innovative approaches into program design.
Event Logistics
  • Support and develop all event logistics for youth focused partner convenings including monitoring invites, agenda development, engagement tracking, and meeting minutes.
Sustainability and Operations
  • Maintain relevant internal systems.
  • Support Development and Grant Managers with grant milestone tracking and reporting.
  • Support the Communications department with relevant content and images.
  • Maintain an attitude of complete ownership of team results and outcomes.
  • Positively contribute to organizational culture and model UP Partnership values.
  • Lead and/or support other UP Partnership initiatives and priorities as needed.

Success in the role requires they enter those situations with openness and a high level of flexibility and employ an approach that acknowledges the challenging reality of the situation for all participants.
  • Demonstrates Results-Oriented Discipline - Those working in backbone roles are continually called upon to suspend processes they know have been used, those procedures are well-known and practiced, the reasons for improvising are well understood, the big-picture outcomes are kept clearly in focus, and disciplines around task management and action tracking are maintained.
  • Asset and Deficit-Based Framing Techniques - Asset-based techniques are designed to focus on strengths (i.e., assets) rather than focusing on weaknesses (deficits); Asset-based approaches connect disparities and community wide problems to systemic causes. It takes greater account of historical and systemic forces that led to the inequity, rather than to individuals. Seeing a community through an asset-based systems lens helps us recognize that where harm has been done, it is usually not the result of self-caused problems. It also allows a community to lead change with their strengths and it amplifies their voices.
  • Equity Focus in Data Candidate will be able to ensure that data collection, analysis, and reporting practices are conducted in a way that promotes fairness and avoids perpetuating historical or existing biases.
  • Marketing/Communication Strategies and Implementation - Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling services. Plan, direct, or coordinate marketing policies and programs, such as determining the demand for services and identification of current and potential audience.
  • Strong Knowledge of San Antonios Educational and Youth Development Landscape - Understanding the current context of the education and youth development sectors across San Antonio. This includes key institutions, organizations, partners, and the building and maintaining of relevant relationships.
  • Problem Solving - Employs multiple problem-solving strategies. Identifies possible explanations and alternatives, identifies the information necessary to solve a problem, anticipates obstacles, and develops contingency plans. Undertakes a complex task by breaking it down into manageable parts in a systematic, detailed way. Presents problem analysis and recommended solutions, rather than just identifying or describing the problem itself. Seeks assistance as necessary.
  • Training Facilitation - The act of engaging participants in creating, discovering, and applying learning insights. The application of results-based facilitation, a competency-based approach to participating in and facilitating meetings that get results. This approach includes holding a focus on roles, conversations, structure, mental models, actions, and results. The method is useful in one-on-one conversations, small groups, and large groups whether you are a meeting participant or meeting facilitator.

Position Details:

This position is a full-time, permanent, benefits eligible position. Anticipated start date is on or before September 3, 2024. The annual salary range is $52,500-$60,000 depending on experience. All UP Partnership staff are currently working on a hybrid schedule blending in-office and remote work. To apply for this position, please submit your cover letter and resume.
