Job Description

Description: The Cancer Center of South Florida is searching for an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to work at Tampa General Hospital Cancer Institute with the outpatient BMT/Cell Therapy team.

The APP will function as an independent healthcare provider who, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team, is responsible for providing comprehensive care to patients undergoing bone marrow transplant (BMT) and cellular therapy. The APP demonstrates a high degree of clinical expertise in caring for patients with hematologic malignancies and other disorders requiring hematopoietic stem cell transplant, immune effector cell therapy, and related supportive care. The APP is responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, education, and care coordination for patients with complex acute and chronic health needs across the transplant and cellular therapy continuum. The APP demonstrates an advanced level of medical clinical knowledge, communication and interdisciplinary collaboration, professionalism, and systems-based practice. The APP works with transplant/cell therapy physicians, nurses, pharmacists, care coordinators, and other multidisciplinary team members to assure safe, effective, quality patient care and to promote educational and research missions.

This APP is dedicated to assisting patients and their families as they navigate bone marrow transplant and cellular therapies. The APP is trained to manage the complex physical and psychosocial needs of immunocompromised patients before, during, and after transplant or cellular therapy. This APP will work closely with interdisciplinary teams to support treatment readiness, toxicity monitoring/management, infection prevention, and longitudinal follow-up. The APP may also participate in patient education, program development, quality initiatives, and research activities related to transplant and cellular therapy. The APP may provide care in a variety of medical settings including outpatient cellular-immunotherapy transplant unit, inpatient transplant unit, and outpatient BMT/cell therapy clinics.

CORE ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Conduct comprehensive or episodic health history and physical assessment of patients undergoing bone marrow transplant and cellular therapy with acute, chronic, and/or potential health problems.

· Establish medical diagnoses and treatment plans in collaboration with the physician and interdisciplinary transplant/cellular therapy team.

· Evaluate and monitor patients before, during, and after transplant or cellular therapy for treatment-related toxicities, infectious complications, cytopenias, transfusion needs, supportive care needs, and other urgent or complex clinical issues.

· Manage general medical conditions and transplant/cellular therapy-related complications based on knowledge of indications, contraindications, side effects, interactions, and adverse reactions of pharmacologic agents and other relevant treatment modalities.

· Maintain accurate, complete, concise, and timely documentation in the electronic medical record according to group practice and program standards.

· Participate in BMT/cellular therapy-specific clinical quality, accreditation, and research projects.

· Write specific orders within the limits of the practice agreement/scope of practice, including supportive care, transfusion-related care, and other treatment-related interventions.

· Educate patients and families on treatment plans, transplant/cellular therapy processes, infection precautions, symptom monitoring, and survivorship or long-term follow-up plans.

· Participate in ongoing learning opportunities to maintain expertise in transplant and cellular therapy practice.

· Participate in and accept on-call coverage assignments, including inpatient, outpatient, weekend, and holiday coverage as required by the service.

Requirements:

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

· Nurse Practitioner: Master’s or Doctorate’s degree from accredited Nursing Program OR

· Physician Assistant: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from accredited PA Program.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSE OR REGISTRATION

APRN:

· Active RN and APRN license in State of Florida.

· Active board certification as a NP in: Adult; Adult/Gerontology, Acute Care; Family.

· Care Acute Care Certification required or: 3 years of oncology experience and have a letter from a supervising MD verifying this or AOCNP certified (need 500 hours of practice to take exam)

OR

PA:

· Active PA license in State of Florida.

· Active PA board certification.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS OR ABILITIES

Hematology-Oncology experience preferred.

BMT/cell therapy experience desired.
