Job Description

Staff Product Designer, Design Systems & Foundations

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Product Designer, Design Systems & Foundations based in Canada.

This is a senior, high-impact design role focused on defining and scaling the foundational systems that enable product excellence across a fast-growing, global SaaS platform serving frontline teams. You will lead the evolution of a mature design system while also shaping the underlying principles, interaction models, and design frameworks that guide product development at scale. Your work will directly improve consistency, usability, and speed across multiple product teams by enabling designers, engineers, and product managers to build with clarity and alignment. You will collaborate closely with engineering and design leadership to ensure design systems are deeply integrated into product architecture and technical constraints. Beyond components, you will influence long-term product foundations and help establish standards that shape how the organization designs and ships products. This is a highly strategic yet hands-on role within a fully remote, collaborative environment.

Accountabilities:
  • Own and evolve the end-to-end design system, including components, design tokens, accessibility standards, documentation, and implementation quality in close partnership with engineering teams.
  • Define and maintain scalable interaction patterns, design principles, and foundational frameworks that ensure consistency across all product experiences.
  • Translate product insights and design learnings into reusable system-level solutions that improve efficiency, alignment, and product quality across teams.
  • Develop documentation, governance models, and decision-making frameworks that enable designers, engineers, and PMs to work autonomously and consistently.
  • Drive adoption of design systems and foundational standards across multiple product squads and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Partner closely with engineering to ensure seamless implementation aligned with technical constraints and evolving product architecture.
  • Contribute to complex, cross-functional product initiatives and help shape long-term product direction, including emerging applications of AI in design workflows.
Requirements
  • Proven experience leading or significantly contributing to a design system at scale within a product organization.
  • Strong systems thinking across interaction design, UX architecture, workflows, and visual design.
  • Excellent product design craft with deep expertise in scalable UI and interaction patterns.
  • Strong collaboration experience with engineering teams and understanding of technical implementation constraints.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive alignment, adoption, and consistency across multiple cross-functional teams.
  • Comfort working in ambiguous environments and shaping foundational product infrastructure.
  • Strong communication, storytelling, and influence skills at the organizational level.
  • Interest or experience in applying AI to design systems, workflows, or product development is a strong plus.
  • Experience in platform, enterprise, or operational workflow design is an asset.
Benefits
  • Competitive annual salary range of $178,075 – $217,625 USD, adjusted for Canadian market benchmarks and location.
  • Fully remote-first culture with flexibility to work from anywhere in Canada.
  • Equity participation in a fast-growing, venture-backed SaaS company.
  • Flexible time-off policy to support rest, travel, and personal wellbeing.
  • Monthly workspace stipend to support flexible working environments.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Paid volunteer days to support community and nonprofit initiatives.
  • Annual in-person company off-sites and regular global team gatherings.
  • Learning and development support, including access to continuous education platforms.
  • Long-term sabbatical program recognizing tenure and contribution.
  • Inclusive, collaborative, and high-trust culture focused on impact and craft excellence.
