This role offers the opportunity to guide and develop emerging engineers through a high-impact AI workforce program designed to prepare talent for real-world technical challenges.
As a technical mentor, you will coach a portfolio of fellows working on meaningful projects with nonprofit organizations across the country.
You will provide hands-on feedback, technical guidance, and career development support while helping engineers improve their skills and confidence.
The position combines software engineering expertise, mentorship, communication, and program delivery in a fully remote environment.
You will collaborate with curriculum leaders, technical experts, and program stakeholders to ensure fellows receive the support needed to succeed.
This is an ideal opportunity for engineers who enjoy enabling others, sharing knowledge, and shaping the next generation of AI-focused technical talent.

Accountabilities:

As a Mentor, you will be responsible for coaching engineers through practical development experiences, ensuring they receive actionable guidance and support throughout the program. You will help fellows grow their technical abilities, navigate challenges, and apply modern engineering practices in real-world environments.

  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 10 pods, supporting around 20 fellows across multiple partner organizations throughout the full program lifecycle.
  • Review and provide structured feedback on pull requests, technical documents, roadmap drafts, architecture proposals, and project deliverables.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with fellows to track progress, identify challenges, and support professional growth.
  • Lead milestone reviews and provide clear progress assessments, recommendations, and improvement plans.
  • Deliver technical learning modules and contribute to customized content based on fellow needs.
  • Facilitate technical discussions, workshops, and cohort learning sessions alongside program and subject matter experts.
  • Identify recurring technical challenges and collaborate with relevant teams to improve the overall learning experience.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools as part of the coaching process, helping fellows understand effective AI-native engineering practices.
  • Communicate proactively with program leadership, technical partners, and stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate is a software engineer with professional development experience who enjoys mentoring others and helping technical talent grow. You should be comfortable working remotely, communicating asynchronously, and providing guidance across different technical areas.

  • 2–4 years of professional software engineering experience working on real-world development teams.
  • Previous mentoring, coaching, teaching assistant, onboarding, or technical leadership experience.
  • Ability to review code written by others and provide clear, constructive, and practical feedback.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools and understanding how they improve engineering workflows.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Ability to operate as a generalist technical coach, quickly identifying solutions or connecting people with the right expertise.
  • Comfortable managing remote collaboration across multiple U.S. time zones.
  • Experience with agile development practices and modern engineering workflows.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Git, Jira, cloud platforms, documentation systems, or similar collaboration tools.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience as a technical instructor, bootcamp mentor, fellowship coach, or educator.
  • Experience working in fast-moving environments where engineers collaborate closely with business stakeholders.
  • Knowledge across multiple areas such as full-stack development, data engineering, AI/ML, infrastructure, or DevOps.
Benefits:
  • Competitive annual salary range of $110,000–$124,500, based on experience and skills.
  • Fully remote position with the flexibility to work from anywhere in the United States.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance with significant employer contribution.
  • Healthcare reimbursement options, flexible spending accounts, and employee assistance programs.
  • 401(k) retirement plan and employer-paid life and disability insurance.
  • Generous paid time off, paid holidays, and fully paid parental leave.
  • Annual company closure period at the end of the year.
  • Professional development support, including an annual learning stipend.
  • Home office setup assistance and necessary work equipment.
  • Eligibility for Public Service Loan Forgiveness support.
  • Additional employee perks, including wellness programs, legal services, and partner discounts.
