Point of Care Supervisor

Point of Care (POC) Supervisor

Location: System-Wide Support | Full-Time | Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm

As the Point of Care (POC) Supervisor at UNC Health Appalachian, you will lead and coordinate point-of-care testing operations across the healthcare system, ensuring quality, accuracy, and regulatory compliance. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across multiple facilities while supporting safe, efficient, and patient-centered care. This position is required ot drive to all locations to support outpatient, inpatient, and emergency services.

  • Compensation: Starting pay begins at $33.93 /hour, based on experience, education, and internal equity
  • Schedule: Full-time position with flexibility to support operational and departmental needs across the system

What You’ll Do as a Point of Care (POC) Supervisor
  • Coordinate and oversee point-of-care testing activities across UNC Health Appalachian facilities
  • Ensure quality testing and accurate test performance through training, competency assessments, and proficiency testing
  • Monitor and maintain point-of-care equipment, including troubleshooting and quality control review
  • Support regulatory compliance and adherence to laboratory standards and organizational policies
  • Collaborate with clinical departments, laboratory staff, and leadership across Avery, Watauga, and ARMA locations
  • Provide onsite support and guidance to departments utilizing point-of-care testing
  • Promote operational efficiency, patient safety, and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS), Master’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), or related healthcare/science field preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical laboratory experience with emphasis related to point-of-care testing

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent in Medical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Blood Bank, Molecular Biology, or related discipline required

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of point-of-care testing processes and regulatory requirements
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to train, educate, and support clinical staff across multiple departments
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Commitment to patient safety, quality outcomes, and customer service excellence
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across a multi-site healthcare system
Physical & Work Environment
  • Frequent standing, walking, and movement between departments and facilities
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 30 lbs
  • Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, and reaching
  • Continuous hand, finger, and wrist dexterity
  • Frequent close visual work and equipment interaction
  • Regular exposure to bloodborne pathogens, laboratory specimens, and healthcare environment hazards
  • Exposure to electrical/mechanical equipment, chemicals, and uneven surfaces
  • Variable hours may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency situations
