Safety Manager / Safety Specialist in Grand Rapids, Michigan at SCT OPERATIONS INC
Job Description
Join Safety Controls Technology (SCT), a nationally recognized occupational safety and health consulting firm, on a two-year, mission-critical data center project in Grand Rapids, Michigan. We're hiring experienced Safety Managers to support hyperscale data center construction from February 2027 through November 2028, driving regulatory compliance, reducing risk, and advancing client safety culture through proactive leadership, assessment, training, and incident management.
WHY YOU'LL LOVE THIS ROLE
- Local Grand Rapids assignment with no travel: home every night
- Two-year assignment: February 2027 through November 2028
- High-visibility work on a hyperscale, mission-critical data center project
Ideal Candidate
You're a seasoned safety professional who knows mission-critical construction from the inside. You bring hyperscale data center experience, whether in a safety leadership role or through years of field safety work on mission-critical projects, and you hold a CSP or CHST. You live in the Grand Rapids area and want a two-year local assignment rather than life on the road. You move fluidly between roles (auditor, trainer, investigator, and first responder), always looking one step ahead for the hazard others miss.
Requirements:What You'll Do
- Conduct comprehensive, site-wide safety and health risk assessments to identify hazards and systematically prioritize mitigation efforts
- Promote and enforce construction site and plant safety compliance in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and industry standards
- Lead and participate in investigations of recordable injuries, high-risk incidents, illnesses, and near-miss events; perform root cause analyses (RCA) and develop corrective and preventive action plans
- Prepare detailed incident investigation reports and track corrective actions to closure
- Support and enhance client safety culture by implementing proactive safety programs, systems, and performance improvement initiatives
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve auditing and inspection processes; conduct annual audits of safety, health, and industrial hygiene programs
- Perform routine audits of facilities, work practices, and work-in-progress to ensure regulatory and procedural compliance
- Conduct annual safety risk assessments to quantify risk exposure and prioritize corrective actions, including oversight of contractor activities
- Perform Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and ergonomic assessments to reduce exposure to workplace hazards
- Oversee and administer contractor safety programs at client sites
- Maintain OSHA logs and ensure compliance with all injury and illness recordkeeping requirements
- Execute and coordinate required safety training programs in accordance with client expectations and OSHA requirements
- Provide on-site medical response services, including first aid, emergency treatment, and initial illness care for injured or ill employees
- Coordinate local case management activities, including transportation of injured employees to medical facilities and administration of workers' compensation processes
- Maintain and update facility safety policies and procedures as part of an Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP) that meets or exceeds OSHA standards
- Champion SCT's 4E's philosophy (Engages, Enlists, Envisions, and Executes) throughout client organizations
- Participate in corporate safety leading indicator programs, including metric tracking and monthly meetings
What You'll Need
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) required
- Experience meeting one of the following:
- Five (5) years of data center experience in a leadership role, including hyperscale data center experience; or
- Seven (7) years of mission-critical construction safety experience, including a hyperscale data center; or

- OSHA 30-Hour certification required
- Must live in the Grand Rapids, MI area; this is a local position with no travel, lodging, or per diem
- Available for the full project duration, February 1, 2027 through November 2028
- Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
- Valid driver's license and high school diploma required
