Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Biological, Chemical, and Environmental Sciences (BCES) Department at Wheaton College is seeking applicants for a full-time Professor of the Practice starting Fall 2027 to teach Human Anatomy & Physiology, Human Anatomy & Physiology laboratory, Introductory Biology, and courses in their specialty. Successful candidates will support other departmental needs as well including, but not limited to, Nutrition, Health Science, Environmental Science, and/or Genetics. A full-time teaching load includes teaching three courses per semester (22-48 students in each) as well as advising students in biological sciences majors and/or on pre-health paths.

Responsibilities of Professors of the Practice include, but are not limited to:
  • Teaching effectively in an in-person environment that fosters meaningful student-faculty interaction.
  • Creating course syllabi (with assistance, if desired) and ensuring it is provided to students and posted on the course’s Canvas site.
  • Selecting and ordering textbooks and/or procuring other required course materials before classes begin.
  • Grading assignments in a timely manner and posting grades in Canvas.
  • Holding regular office hours and being responsive to student needs.

Minimum Qualifications:
PhD is required, and undergraduate teaching experience is strongly preferred.

When determining and establishing hiring rates or recruitment ranges for a position, the College considers a number of factors including the budget for the position, the range of the grade, the external market for the position or similar positions, level and scope of responsibilities, required education, skills and relevant experience as well as internal equity. All salary offers must have the prior approval of the Office of Human Resources.

The anticipated hiring or recruitment range for this position is $55K. The actual salary offered will be commensurate with the qualifications, education and experience of the candidate hired.
