Job Description
JOB OVERVIEW
The Staff Accountant supports the financial integrity and day-to-day accounting operations of the hotel by recording transactions, reconciling accounts, preparing reports, and maintaining complete and accurate financial records.
Reporting to the Accounting Manager, Hotel Controller, or Regional Director of Finance, the Staff Accountant works closely with property leaders and corporate finance partners to complete routine accounting activities, support month-end close, and ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and applicable accounting standards. This is a hands-on, non-supervisory role requiring accuracy, sound judgment, and consistent follow-through.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
General Ledger & Month-End Close
- Assist in month end closing process to produce timely and accurate financial statements.
- Prepare and post routine and recurring journal entries with complete, accurate, and properly approved supporting documentation.
Revenue & Audit Oversight
- Review daily revenue activity from hotel property-management and point-of-sale systems.
- Assist with the maintenance of effective controls over revenue recognition, cash handling, discounts, voids, adjustments, and complimentary transactions.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Ensure accounts payable are processed accurately and paid timely.
- Maintain vendor relationships and professionally resolve billing discrepancies.
- Assist in accounts receivable processes, including billing, collections, and aging management for both operating and guest receivables.
Administrative Support & Compliance
- Monitor compliance with hotel, accounting and cash handling policies and procedures. Communicate compliance concerns to corporate office.
- Special projects, system implementations, and process improvements as necessary
- Additional duties as assigned by hotel or corporate management
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered
- 1-2 years of accounting experience; hospitality or property accounting preferred
- Experience with hospitality PMS, POS, and accounting systems preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, lookups, and pivot tables
- Strong attention to detail, organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to meet deadlines, maintain confidentiality, and communicate professionally
