Program Director

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Program Director based in the United States.

This is a senior program delivery opportunity for an experienced project and program leader who thrives in complex, fast-paced digital environments. You’ll oversee multiple projects while managing and mentoring a team of Project Managers, ensuring work is delivered on time, within budget, and to a high standard. The role combines strategic client leadership with hands-on program oversight, Agile delivery, and team development. You’ll work across multidisciplinary teams spanning design, development, content, strategy, and technology while partnering closely with senior client stakeholders. Success requires strong judgment, communication, organization, and the ability to navigate competing priorities and complex challenges. This is an opportunity to influence delivery practices, strengthen client relationships, and help teams consistently deliver meaningful digital outcomes.

Accountabilities
  • Lead and motivate diverse, distributed project teams in a fast-paced environment while managing and developing a team of 2–3 Project Manager direct reports.
  • Oversee projects managed by direct reports, ensuring delivery remains on track, within scope and budget, aligned with timelines, and compliant with established processes.
  • Independently lead projects from inception through completion, managing scope, schedules, budgets, risks, issues, dependencies, and deliverables.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget while maintaining high levels of client and internal stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Serve as Scrum Master when required, facilitating Agile ceremonies including stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog grooming, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Monitor project performance, budget utilization, scope changes, delivery risks, and timelines, proactively addressing issues before they affect outcomes.
  • Build consensus within project teams and guide stakeholders toward practical solutions to complex problems.
  • Advocate for project teams by ensuring team members have the clarity, resources, information, and support required to deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • Serve as a key client contact, maintaining strong relationships and ensuring expectations, business goals, and project outcomes remain aligned.
  • Facilitate clear communication across project teams, client stakeholders, senior leadership, and multidisciplinary internal teams.
  • Plan and lead effective meetings, including developing agendas, facilitating discussions, documenting decisions, and following up on action items.
  • Adapt communication styles to different audiences, working styles, personalities, and levels of technical understanding.
  • Foster collaborative, inclusive, and productive team environments while resolving conflicts constructively.
  • Use project management platforms and reporting tools to support data-driven decision-making and provide visibility into program performance.
  • Partner with clients and product owners to translate business goals into effective working solutions and measurable outcomes.
  • Develop a strong understanding of client industries and business environments to identify opportunities and drive meaningful results.
  • Collaborate effectively with designers, developers, content strategists, product teams, and other specialists across organizational levels.
  • Partner with Client Service and Business Development teams to scope, size, and develop solutions for new opportunities.
  • Identify and implement process improvements that increase delivery efficiency, quality, and consistency.
  • Collaborate with program leadership to establish best practices, adopt new technologies, and improve delivery processes and standards.
  • Coach and mentor project management team members while supporting professional development and continuous learning.
  • Manage direct reports through performance management, goal setting, career development, conflict resolution, and project oversight.
  • Build strong, trusted relationships with clients and internal stakeholders to support long-term success.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of Agile and project management methodologies, standards, templates, and deliverables.
  • Promote information security awareness and responsible handling of information assets, including security practices, data protection, and privacy requirements.
  • Identify and escalate information security risks and help ensure appropriate safeguards are incorporated throughout the information lifecycle.
  • Continue developing project leadership, Agile delivery, technology, and industry knowledge through ongoing learning.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience.
  • 7+ years of progressively responsible project management experience, including at least 2 years working with Agile methodologies.
  • 8+ years of experience working as a consultant, agency project manager, or in a comparable client-facing delivery environment.
  • Demonstrated experience using Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, or other structured project management methodologies.
  • Experience managing multiple multidisciplinary teams simultaneously, typically consisting of 4–8 team members.
  • Experience managing distributed and remote teams across different locations.
  • Proven ability to deliver large-scale digital projects, ideally with budgets of $1M+ and timelines of 9 months or longer.
  • Strong understanding of digital development processes, technologies, and multidisciplinary delivery environments.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, prioritization, and ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously.
  • Hands-on experience with Jira, Confluence, or comparable project and software development management platforms.
  • Experience with CMS and eCommerce platforms such as Adobe Experience Manager, Drupal, Magento, or Shopify is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics or comparable digital analytics platforms is advantageous.
  • CSM and/or PMP certification is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong client management and stakeholder engagement capabilities, including experience working with senior decision-makers.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts, build consensus, influence stakeholders, and make sound decisions in ambiguous situations.
  • Strong leadership and people-management skills, including experience coaching, mentoring, and developing project management professionals.
  • High adaptability, resilience, and comfort operating in fast-changing environments.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally as required.
Benefits
  • Annual salary range of $122,000–$145,000.
  • Remote work opportunity within the United States.
  • Compensation determined based on experience, education, training, skills, and organizational needs.
  • Opportunity to lead large-scale digital programs and work with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Significant responsibility for both client delivery and Project Manager leadership.
  • Opportunities to develop expertise across Agile delivery, digital transformation, technology, and program management.
  • Professional development through continuous learning, coaching, and exposure to new tools and delivery methodologies.
