Options Community Services is a non-profit organization dedicated to delivering social services across the Southern Fraser region (Surrey, Delta, White Rock and Langley) from early childhood to seniors. Our comprehensive range of programs and services relies on collaborative relationships with individuals, businesses, community groups and government bodies to create focused, effective and responsive resources for the community.

Position Overview

Are you passionate about Child and Youth and looking for hands-on experience in a dynamic environment? Join our team as a Child and Youth Worker and you will work alongside adults with developmental disabilities or autism, in developing life skills. In addition, this position will assist in creating activities that provide recreational, educational and social opportunities for adults in a community setting. This position is open to individuals who self-identify as having a disability.

Reporting to the Program Manager, our selected candidate will assist in creating monthly newsletters offering different recreational activities, developing and implementing a wide range of summer activities for adults with developmental disability, creating opportunities that provide recreational, educational and social support for adults, may involve designing online programming such as a yoga class, virtual farm tour, etc. and other duties as directed by assistant program manager or program manager.

Reporting to the Program Manager, the selected candidate will assist in creating monthly newsletters highlighting various recreational activities. They will help develop and implement a wide range of summer activities for adults with developmental disabilities, creating opportunities that provide recreational, educational, and social support in a community setting. This may include designing online programming, such as yoga classes or virtual farm tours.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should have experience working in programs for adults with disabilities, demonstrates flexibility and a willingness to adapt to changing situations, and is energetic and passionate about working with adults. They possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, a commitment to a problem-solving approach, and the ability to identify sensitive issues while maintaining confidentiality. Additionally, the candidate should have excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

This is funded by the Government of Canada through the Canada Summer Jobs Program. Qualified candidates must be:

  • Aged between 15 and 30 years old on the start date of the job;
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN); and
  • Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent Resident of Canada, or a person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.

This role requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Information Check (PIC), and a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice.
