Ready to make a difference in Immigrant Services? Join our team as a Community Service Worker and gain hands-on experience in a dynamic environment! You’ll provide needs and asset assessments, referrals, information, and orientation in one-on-one or group settings, while facilitating community connection activities in languages including Spanish, Mandarin, Punjabi, Hindi, Somali, Arabic, Kurdish, Tagalog, and English.
Reporting to the Program Manager, the selected candidate will support newcomers in accessing employment services within the community. This includes conducting needs and asset assessments through one-on-one interactions and group settings, as well as organizing community events to help vulnerable youth access community and educational programs. The role also involves organizing education and career fairs to connect newcomers with education service providers, maintaining accurate and confidential client records and documentation, and assisting managers in planning and executing branding and marketing activities to promote the Immigrant Services mandate, programs, and projects to the broader community and client populations.
The ideal candidate is flexible and willing to adapt to changing situations, with a strong understanding of the needs of immigrants and refugees. They should be able to support clients in career planning and help them acquire job search skills and tools, including interview techniques, self-marketing, resume writing, and more. The candidate must possess strong active listening, empathy, and counseling skills, while being sensitive to and respectful of cultural and lifestyle diversity. They should have the ability to easily build rapport with others, demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
This is funded by the Government of Canada through the Canada Summer Jobs Program. Qualified candidates must be:
- Aged between 15 and 30 years old on the start date of the job;
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN); and
- Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent Resident of Canada, or a person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
This role requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Information Check (PIC), and a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice.
