Options Community Services is a non-profit organization dedicated to delivering social services across the Southern Fraser region (Surrey, Delta, White Rock and Langley) from early childhood to seniors. Our comprehensive range of programs and services relies on collaborative relationships with individuals, businesses, community groups and government bodies to create focused, effective and responsive resources for the community.

Position Overview

Ready to make a difference in the lives of children and families? Join our team as a Disability Support Worker! Work alongside the Child and Youth Worker to support children with developmental disabilities or autism in building life skills. You'll also help create recreational, educational, and social activities for children in the community. The main focus of this role is to support individuals with disabilities hired by Options Community Services for our summer children's program.

Reporting to the Program Manager, the selected candidate will assist the disability workers hired for the summer with completing their timesheets and managing their time. They will also help create monthly newsletters featuring various recreational activities, develop and implement a wide range of summer activities for children and youth with developmental disabilities, and create opportunities that provide recreational, educational, and social support for children in a community setting. Additionally, the role may involve designing online activities, such as yoga classes and virtual farm tours.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate has experience working in programs for children with disabilities and demonstrates flexibility and a willingness to adapt to changing situations. They are energetic and passionate about working with children and youth, with strong interpersonal and communication skills. The candidate is committed to a problem-solving approach and has the ability to identify sensitive issues while maintaining confidentiality. They possess excellent organizational and time-management skills and can work both independently and as part of a team.

This is funded by the Government of Canada through the Canada Summer Jobs Program. Qualified candidates must be:

  • Aged between 15 and 30 years old on the start date of the job;
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN); and
  • Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent Resident of Canada, or a person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.

This role requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Information Check (PIC), and a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice.
