About This Position

The Controller will oversee and manage the financial operations of Lark Projects Ltd., ensuring financial integrity, accuracy, and compliance across all construction and development projects. This position is critical to maintaining efficient and effective financial management, reporting, and budgeting processes.

The Controller will provide support for the company’s financial decisions, working closely with project teams and senior leadership to ensure alignment with the overall goals of Lark Group.

Responsibilities

Financial Management:

  • Oversee and manage the day-to-day accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and job costing.
  • Ensure compliance with ASPE (Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises) and Canadian GAAP

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor annual budgets and forecasts for projects and the company.
  • Analyze budget variances and report on financial performance to senior management.

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
  • Oversee project cost accounting, ensuring accurate tracking of construction costs, margins, and profitability.
  • Manage all tax-related matters including GST/PST filings and tax compliance.

Development & Partnership Reporting:

  • Prepare and maintain financial models and pro-formas for development projects, including sensitivity and scenario analysis.
  • Coordinate financial reporting for joint venture partners and development partners, including periodic financial packages and project updates.
  • Monitor development project financial performance, ensuring alignment with approved budgets and investment expectations.
  • Support the development team with financial analysis related to acquisitions, financing, and project structuring.

Internal Controls:

  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial information.
  • Ensure processes and procedures are regularly reviewed, updated, and documented, and that team members consistently follow established guidelines to maintain compliance and operational effectiveness.

Cash Flow Management:

  • Manage cash flow to meet the company’s operational needs and project requirements.
  • Oversee cash forecasting and ensure timely and accurate financial transactions.
  • Forecast and manage development and construction cash flows, including lender draw schedules and funding requirements.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead and mentor the accounting team, providing guidance and support in daily operations and professional development.
  • Drive team accountability and continuous improvement while encouraging a solutions-based approach to challenges.
  • Work closely with project managers, estimators, and other key departments to align financial processes with project management.

Liaison with External Parties:

  • Collaborate with external auditors, tax consultants, and financial institutions.
  • Provide support during audits and ensure compliance with all financial regulations and requirements.
  • Other Projects and Duties as assigned by Senior Leadership.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA designation is required.

Software: Proficient in construction accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage 300 Construction, Acumatica, Velixo) and advanced knowledge of Excel.

Knowledge: Strong understanding of project costing, job costing, and financial analysis in the construction industry.

Soft Skills:

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Effective leadership and communication skills to collaborate across departments.

Salary

The expected base salary range for this role is $130,000–$145,000; however, for candidates who significantly exceed the role’s requirements, we may consider a higher base salary.
