Job Description



Essential Functions of the Position


  • Answer all barn office phone calls and deliver messages to appropriate staff members.
  • Respond to emails sent to the Equine Department and forward to appropriate staff members.
  • File and drop off all invoices, payments and donations to the Accounting Department located at the main shelter.
  • Pick up any ordered supplies that are delivered to the main shelter.
  • Update calendar with appointments, meetings, booked out dates, etc.
  • Maintain inventory of office supplies and place orders when needed.
  • Transfer all data from the Interest in Adoption Forms into the Potential Adopter List.
  • Process all Adoption Applications.
  • Update Adopter Wait List.
  • Schedule Adoption Appointments.
  • Meet with Adopters (Along with Head Trainer for appropriate horses)
  • Finalize Adoptions (Process payment, go over contract and all important information)
  • Enter all money deposits from adoptions and donations into Pet Point.
  • Update Monthly Deposit List.
  • Upon intake- Input new horse photos and adoptable descriptions into Pet Point for the HSNT Equine website.
  • Input new horse photos and adoptable descriptions into My Right Horse website
  • Schedule and conduct Volunteer Orientations
  • Oversee Volunteer Schedule
  • Update Volunteer Database
  • Work with Barn Manager, Trainer and Director for volunteer placement
  • Organize Events
  • Communicate with Director and all staff members to prepare property for events
  • When needed, will assist with caring for, feeding and monitoring all animals on the ranch. Includes performing routine husbandry with equine such as administering oral medications, cleaning hooves and maintaining coats by brushing and bathing.
  • Assists veterinarians performing medical procedures such as teeth floats, castrations, and blood draws.
  • Assist farrier with hoof work on animals.
  • Clean assigned barn and facility areas when needed.
  • Identify and report observed health or behavior issues of horses to the Director of Equine.
  • Provide basic level natural horsemanship training (ground manners and under saddle for equines) with direction from Director and/or trainer
  • Must have a clean driving record
  • May assist the team with cruelty seizures.
  • Represent the Humane Society of North Texas by providing excellent customer service.
  • Protect the confidential information on customers and donors.
  • Additional tasks as assigned by the Director of Equine



Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities Needed to Perform the Essential Functions of this Position

  • Knowledge of Humane Society of North Texas policies and protocols, such as, but not limited to, adoption, cleaning and medical protocols.
  • Working knowledge of equine breeds, basic medical conditions, and animal handling and behavior.
  • Ability to handle animals safely and with patience and gentleness; HSNT will provide staff with continuing education and training based on funding.
  • Ability to represent the Humane Society of North Texas in a professional manner in all situations with the public, volunteers, and staff.
  • Ability to create and sustain positive working relationships within the Humane Society of North Texas, with volunteers, the public, and be a team player.
  • Must be patient, courteous and work well under stressful conditions.
  • Initiative and flexibility in constantly changing work demands
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively.
  • Fluent in Google calendar, sheets, slides, spreadsheets, docs and Canva
  • Experience in safely hauling bumper and gooseneck trailers
  • Ability to learn and quickly adapt to changes in programs and procedures.
  • 2 years of equine experience
  • Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree in an animal field preferred


Required Professional Licensing or Certifications

  • Valid Texas Driver’s License

  • The position holder must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without assistance, up to 80 pounds with assistance.
  • Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.


Working Conditions

  • The individual performing this job may be required to work more than 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a week. Employees can expect a relatively consistent schedule of 40 hours.
  • Based in Joshua, TX
