This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Technical Staff, Custody (Backend Engineer) based in United States.

Accountabilities

The Technical Staff, Custody (Backend Engineer) will design, develop, and maintain secure backend systems that support institutional digital asset operations. This role requires strong engineering judgment, ownership of complex projects, and collaboration across teams to deliver reliable and scalable solutions.

  • Participate in technical design, task breakdown, estimation, implementation, testing, and maintenance of custody platform systems.
  • Build, review, test, and document high-quality backend code following engineering standards and best practices.
  • Solve complex and ambiguous technical challenges by developing practical, scalable, and secure solutions.
  • Design and maintain resilient distributed systems capable of handling varying workloads without manual intervention.
  • Lead or significantly contribute to medium and large-scale engineering projects, including cross-functional initiatives.
  • Break down complex projects into actionable tasks, estimate scope accurately, evaluate technical options, and recommend priorities.
  • Improve engineering quality by promoting strong testing practices, reducing technical debt, and maintaining reliable infrastructure.
  • Conduct code reviews to improve consistency, prevent defects, and share knowledge across engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with other teams to solve technical challenges, align priorities, and establish effective working relationships.
  • Share knowledge across the organization and help prevent single points of failure within technical domains.
  • Mentor and guide engineers by sharing expertise, supporting growth, and promoting strong engineering practices.
  • Contribute to strategic technical discussions and help connect engineering initiatives with broader organizational goals.
Requirements

The ideal candidate is an experienced backend engineer with strong distributed systems expertise and a passion for building secure, reliable technology. The role requires strong software engineering fundamentals, collaboration skills, and the ability to work effectively on complex technical challenges.

  • Proven experience building complex distributed systems in production environments.
  • Strong backend engineering skills, with experience in languages such as Go or the ability to quickly learn new technologies.
  • Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals, including concurrency, algorithms, and data structures.
  • Experience designing and building resilient services that support large-scale workloads.
  • Strong focus on code quality, testing infrastructure, maintainability, and engineering excellence.
  • Ability to prioritize user experience and business impact over unnecessary technical complexity.
  • Experience collaborating within engineering teams and contributing to a culture of knowledge sharing.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to independently drive technical initiatives.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting other engineers through technical guidance and collaboration.
  • Familiarity with secure software development practices and systems handling sensitive information.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with applied cryptography or security-focused engineering.
  • Interest in blockchain technologies, digital assets, and emerging financial infrastructure.
  • Experience reading technical protocol documentation or blockchain research materials.
  • Experience designing and implementing GraphQL APIs.
  • Experience designing and implementing gRPC APIs.
  • Background working in financial services or regulated technology environments.
