About This Position
Maintains a strong understanding of current and future financial and grant requirements in order to complete financial reporting and allowable activities and expenditures. Interprets financial and grant requirements for the City of Flint staff. Maintains accounts, ledgers and accounting files, utilizing initiative, a high degree of accuracy, sound judgment and discretion in the performance of duties. Works closely with the Department of Finance and appropriate grant staff as required. Performs other related work as required through the direction of the City Administrator or their designee.
- Maintains multiple federal and private grant budgets, prepares and submits timely financial reports and requests for reimbursement.
- Reviews and monitors financial grant requirements, allowable activities, and expenditures, ensuring grant compliance.
- Maintains knowledge of and keeps abreast of municipal finance policies and procedures, including purchasing ordinances, sales tax exemption, travel, etc.
- Regularly assess financial status of budgets, recommends actions necessary to maintain compliance, prepares budget adjustments or amendments when necessary.
- Writes and/or reviews grant related contracts and resolutions.
- Creates requisition, purchase orders, gathers relevant documentation including quotes and invoices to order grant compliant services, equipment and supplies, adhering to municipal purchasing policies.
- Collects, reviews, and submits timesheets for the Mayor’s Office and City Administrator.
- Prepares regular and mileage reimbursements.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferably in Business, Finance, Accounting, or other related fields.
- One to two years experience with grant accounting.
- Familiarity with government and non-profit accounting.
- Intermediate to advanced level proficiency of Microsoft Word and Excel.

- Ability to display effective oral and written communication.
- Ability to retain records, prepare and analyze reports and data.
- Highly organized and dependable.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department heads and the general public.
