Position Summary:

The Regional Safety Manager (RSM) is responsible for assisting the Corporate Safety Director (SD) with safety and health issues within their specific region and at a corporate level. The RSM may be responsible to perform the duties of a safety technician and SSM where needed. Provide technical expertise in all aspects of occupational safety and health. Work cooperatively with the general contractor and/or customer management in managing the project safety and health goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for developing and/or revising corporate safety and health policies
  • Develop and provide training as needed to include new hire orientations, forklift and any other relevant training needs for union and non-union workers and management
  • Provide onsite in-depth accident investigations with root cause analyses
  • Provide support for the SSM when conflicts arise in the interpretation and applications of safety and health rules and procedures regarding the client or owner involvement or Conti management concerns
  • Assist the project managers, jobs without assigned safety coverage, service department and the SSMs in treating and managing injuries and incidents
  • Provide Site Specific Safety Plans, JSAs and other safety plans, guidance and support to project managers, jobs without assigned safety coverage, service department and the SSMs
  • Audit active projects that do not have assigned safety coverage by safety technicians or an SSM
  • Assist management and supervision in the application of disciplinary actions
  • Provide and maintain electronic records of all safety files or documentation that he/she produces
  • Assist HR with investigation and corrective actions for any reported incident of harassment or discrimination
  • Assist the Corporate HR Director with employee benefits including medical, 401k, STD and leave of absences
  • Main contact for HR on site
  • Maintain gas monitoring equipment in a ready state and ensure proper application and use of such life-saving equipment

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk over rough and uneven surfaces
  • Ability to routinely lift up to 10 pounds
  • Prolonged standing and walking
  • Ability to properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) including the required use of hard hats, work boots, eye protection, and hearing protection
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week, overtime, and night shifts as required

Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee may be exposed to various weather conditions, including outside weather conditions
  • Work in restricted areas (switchgear room, manholes, utility tunnels, crawl spaces, attics)
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but can be loud at times when clients are operating equipment

Required Education and Experience:

  • Minimum OSHA #501 and 511 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the General Industry
  • Ability to effectively communicate with management and labor verbally and in writing
  • Ability to lead, coach, direct and discipline employees in alignment with company processes, policies and procedures
  • Proficient in problem solving and resolving concerns and conflicts in the work environment
  • Valid First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Minimum 5 years of Construction experience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a safety leadership role
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of OSHA, MSHA, NFPA, and ANSI regulations and standards.
  • Possess a valid State-Issued Driver’s License
  • Ability to pass a urine/hair follicle/saliva drug screening
  • Ability to pass a credit / background check
