Survey & Mapping Technician I/II

About the Role
Centerline Technical Services is expanding its Survey & Geospatial team and is seeking motivated individuals to join our growing operations. The Survey & Mapping Technician I/II will support a variety of surveying, mapping, GIS, and data processing projects for clients across the energy, utilities, engineering, construction, and infrastructure industries.
This remote or hybrid position provides an opportunity to work with surveying and mapping technologies while developing practical experience in data processing, drafting, GIS, quality control, and project deliverables. Depending on experience and skill level, responsibilities may range from organizing and processing field data to preparing drawings, maintaining project records, performing quality control, and assisting with technical deliverables.
The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, self-motivated, comfortable working with computers and technical software, and interested in developing a career in surveying, geomatics, mapping, GIS, or related technical services.
Key Responsibilities
- Process, organize, and maintain survey, mapping, GIS, and field data for active projects.
- Download, organize, and transfer field data for processing and project deliverables.
- Assist with processing survey and mapping data using applicable software and workflows.
- Prepare maps, exhibits, drawings, figures, and other project deliverables.
- Assist with drafting and plan production using applicable CAD software.
- Review collected data for completeness, accuracy, and consistency.
- Assist with the collection, organization, and quality control of survey data.
- Maintain accurate project files, records, metadata, photographs, and other documentation.
- Support the preparation of right-of-way, topographic, construction, utility, and other survey-related deliverables.
- Work closely with surveyors, GIS professionals, UAV operators, project managers, and other technical team members.
- Communicate project status, data concerns, and potential issues to the project manager or surveyor.
- Follow all company quality control procedures and client requirements.
- Perform other duties related to surveying, mapping, GIS, data processing, and technical documentation as assigned.
Technician II – Additional Responsibilities
Depending on experience and demonstrated proficiency, Technician II responsibilities may include:
- Independently perform routine remote or hybrid survey, mapping, GIS, and data processing tasks with limited supervision.
- Process GNSS, total station, UAV, and other field-collected data.
- Perform initial review and quality control of field data prior to submission for final processing or delivery.
- Prepare and revise CAD drawings, maps, exhibits, and other technical deliverables.
- Assist with construction layout documentation, topographic surveys, right-of-way surveys, and other project-specific deliverables.
- Assist less-experienced technicians with office procedures, software workflows, data organization, and quality control.
- Communicate project requirements, data concerns, and potential discrepancies to the project manager or surveyor.
- Assist with project tracking, document control, and preparation of client deliverables.
Qualifications
Technician I – Required
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training.
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn new software and technology.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate data processing.
- Ability to organize files, records, and technical information effectively.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a technical team.
- Willingness to learn surveying, mapping, GIS, CAD, and related technical skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a remote or hybrid environment.
- Ability to meet project deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
Technician II – Required
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training, college coursework, or degree in surveying, geomatics, GIS, civil engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- 5-10 years of experience in surveying, mapping, GIS, CAD drafting, construction documentation, or related technical data processing.
- Experience with survey data processing, data management, CAD drafting, or preparation of technical deliverables.
- Familiarity with survey data collection workflows and office processing procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate data processing.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a technical team.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet established deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Trimble Business Center (TBC), AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS Field Maps, Survey123, or similar software.
- Experience with topographic, right-of-way, construction, or utility surveying.
- Experience processing and maintaining survey data.
- Familiarity with coordinate systems, control points, benchmarks, and basic survey concepts.
- Previous experience working in the energy, pipeline, utility, construction, or engineering industries.
- Ability to read and interpret survey plans, maps, drawings, and project documentation.
- Experience with document control, quality assurance, or technical data management.
