About This Position
Founded in 1991, Friends of Recovery is dedicated to supporting men and women in recovery from alcohol and drug misuse through transitional housing and supportive services to aid in their recovery. The Outreach Coordinator is responsible for promoting and supporting individuals in recovery through mentoring, education, and case management.

SUMMARY: The FORA Outreach Coordinator for Shawnee and Wyandotte Counties is a full-time position responsible for building, maintaining, and strengthening relationships with Kansas Oxford Houses, community partners, referral sources, specialty courts and recovery-support stakeholders across Shawnee County and Wyandotte County, Kansas. This role plays a critical part in supporting FORA’s mission by ensuring consistent communication, collaboration, and support for Kansas Oxford Houses and individuals in recovery.
This position will work closely with Kansas Oxford House Members, Chapters, State Association, and Service Providers to promote recovery housing stability, connect those in recovery to resources and represent FORA within the community.
WORK SCHEDULE AND LOCATION REQUIREMENTS: Regular local travel required between Oxford Houses and community partner locations in Shawnee and Wyandotte Counties.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and maintain partnerships with treatment centers, specialty courts, corrections, probations/parole, hospitals, and other recovery support groups.
- Represent FORA at community meetings and education events, recovery events, and other outreach activities.
- Educate community partners with FORA services, Kansas Oxford House, and recovery housing best practices.
- Assist Kansas Oxford House Members with accessing resources, problem solving, and navigating challenges in collaboration with Kansas Oxford House state and chapter leadership
- Support communication between Kansas Oxford House and FORA regarding policies, expectations, and available resources/support
- Provide support for the development and opening of new Kansas Oxford Houses, including attending new house meetings and offering guidance during the initial startup period.
- Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, chapter meetings and house meetings
- Submit regular chapter meeting reports, outreach efforts, outcomes, and recommendations to administrative staff
- Track engagement across houses, chapters, and counties to ensure consistent support
- Respond to outreach inquiries and requests from houses and community partners in a timely manner, within one business day (24 hours) when possible.
- Work collaboratively with FORA Admin staff and other Outreach Coordinators
- Support FORA initiatives, grants and programs
- Coordinate and participate in recovery community events, presentations, and volunteer outreach activities as assigned.
- Assist with special projects and events when assigned by the Executive Director and/or administrative staff
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Lived experience in recovery for at least 2 years or strong professional experience working in recovery, behavioral health, or social services
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn the Oxford House model
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build trust and rapport with diverse populations
- Self-motivated, focused, positive attitude, flexible, and demonstrates initiative
- Strong organizational skills and time management skills
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel
- Proficiency with basic skills in Office 365
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Standard work week is 40 hours. There may be critical time constraints that create the need for a flexible schedule during certain time periods, including occasional evenings and weekends.
- Background in peer support, outreach, case management, understanding justice system, and community engagement
- Familiarity with Shawnee County and Wyandotte County recovery resources
- Experience working with justice involved population
- Certificates, licenses, and registrations preferred by not required: CPR, PCCM level 1, MHFA
