Trained and experienced commercial sheet metal workers are essential to modern construction, and they have the potential to earn high wages while working a traditional work week. QuesTec Mechanical invests in our community by offering an accredited and DOL-registered apprenticeship program with a strong history of graduating talented workers who make a difference in the workforce.
About Our Apprentice Program
Our program is a four-year, tuition-free program that teaches all aspects of the sheet metal trade, including fabrication, installation, and maintenance of HVAC duct systems and related components. Apprentices receive a blend of on-the-job training and classroom instruction, learning the practical, hands-on skills required for a highly technical and rewarding career. Our instructors are experienced sheet metal professionals who bring real-world knowledge directly into the classroom.
Apprentices work full time for QuesTec, Monday through Friday, and attend class twice monthly.
All tuition and school materials are covered by QuesTec Mechanical.
Primary Duties
- Attend apprenticeship classes twice a month
- Learn and assist in fabricating, assembling, installing, and repairing sheet metal ductwork, fittings, and HVAC systems
- Operate and maintain tools and equipment used in sheet metal fabrication and installation
- Work cooperatively with co-workers, other trades, and laborers to ensure all specifications, building codes, safety regulations, and project requirements are met
- Accept direction and guidance from QuesTec journeymen, foremen, and field supervisors
- Support efficient project completion and maintain awareness of productivity expectations
- Perform manual labor tasks that prepare the work area for fabrication or installation activities
Position Requirements:
Characteristics and Qualifications
- Must be 18 years old and have their high school diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license and reliable, daily transportation
- Willing to travel to a variety of commercial job sites within a reasonable radius of home address
- Exposure to construction trades or shop classes/trade school is preferred
- Experience doing manual labor and working outdoors
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively and respectfully
- Willingness to obtain OSHA 10 upon hire
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift 35 pounds on own
- Ability to push, pull, carry, and maneuver heavy items (with additional manpower or appropriate tools)
- Ability to withstand long periods of standing, squatting, stooping, and crawling (stationary positions up to 50% of time)
- Ability to feel, grasp, operate and position items with fingers and hands
- Ability to effectively perform work at ground level, above ground level, below ground level and in confined spaces such as pipe shafts, crawl spaces, tunnels, and basins
