Job Description
Marketing Communications Specialist
• Reports to: Director of Marketing
• Location: Remote
• Employment Type: Full-time
About the Role
Draft2Digital is looking for a talented, strategic, and highly collaborative Marketing Communications Specialist to join our marketing team.
Draft2Digital is a self-publishing pioneer. From the beginning, we have helped independent authors and publishers reach readers around the world, contributing to the growth of the global indie author movement and the broader evolution of publishing.
This is a hands-on communications role for someone who loves to write, understands that effective communications begin with clear objectives, and is excited to help shape what comes next for the indie author community and the publishing industry.
Reporting to the Director of Marketing, the Marketing Communications Specialist will support communications across Draft2Digital’s business units and audiences, including independent authors and publishers, booksellers, librarians, readers, media, industry partners, and internal stakeholders. The role will span content development, email marketing, public relations, executive communications, presentations, and internal communications.
The ideal candidate is a confident writer and strategic thinker who can move comfortably between big-picture planning and execution. You’ll bring ideas to the table, ask smart questions, identify opportunities, and take ownership of projects from concept through completion.
You’ll also work closely with company executives and senior leaders, helping translate complex ideas, business initiatives, and industry trends into clear, compelling communications. Through this work, you’ll help tell the story of independent publishing as a professional, sustainable, and increasingly influential part of the publishing ecosystem.
What You’ll Do
• Develop and edit high-quality written content across channels, including blogs, newsletters, email campaigns, press releases, announcements, presentations, internal communications, and other marketing materials.
• Translate complex business, product, and industry topics into clear, accessible, audience-focused messaging.
• Help develop and maintain messaging and voice across Draft2Digital’s brands and business units.
• Collaborate with internal subject-matter experts, authors, publishers, and industry partners to develop compelling content and thought leadership.
• Create communications that strengthen understanding of Draft2Digital and highlight the quality, diversity, professionalism, and impact of indie publishing.
• Identify opportunities to repurpose content and maximize the value of existing communications.
• Help tell the stories of the people, ideas, and innovations moving independent publishing forward.
• Approach communications with a business-first mindset, connecting content and campaigns to clear objectives.
• Define the audience, message, channel, and desired outcome before determining what to create.
• Help develop communications strategies and plans in support of company priorities, product launches, brand initiatives, and relevant industry opportunities.
• Tailor messaging for distinct audiences, including authors and publishers, publishing professionals, booksellers and librarians, readers, media, industry partners, and internal stakeholders.
• Monitor industry conversations and emerging trends to identify timely opportunities.
• Bring new ideas and perspectives to the marketing team and proactively recommend ways to improve communications.
What We’re Looking For
• 3–5 years of professional experience in marketing communications, corporate communications, public relations, content marketing, journalism, or a related field.
• Exceptional writing and spoken communication skills.
• Strong strategic thinking and the ability to connect communications activities to business objectives.
• Confidence working directly with executives and senior leaders.
• Ability to work autonomously without requiring extensive direction.
Nice-to-Have
• Experience in the publishing industry, particularly digital publishing, self-publishing, or the broader creator economy.
• A genuine passion for books, publishing, the arts, or creative industries.
• Public speaking experience.
Annual Salary - $70,000.00
