Volumetric Building Companies (VBC) is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Associate Counsel that will provide comprehensive legal support focused on contract management and employment law compliance across multiple jurisdictions, with emphasis on Pennsylvania and California. This role partners closely with the General Counsel and Head of HR to ensure legal compliance, mitigate risk, and support strategic initiatives. The Associate Counsel will advise on complex employment matters, draft and support negotiating contracts, and lead compliance audits while serving as a trusted resource for leadership and HR teams. This role is expected to collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure legal considerations are integrated into business decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
Contracts
- Mitigate risk for the company through commercial negotiations and legal drafting.
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, vendor contracts, NDAs, and service agreements.
- Ensure contract terms comply with applicable laws and company policies.
- Maintain contract & document templates that implement best practices for risk management.
- Manage the full contract lifecycle, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and company policies.
Employment Law
- Advise HR and management on employment law matters, including wage and hour compliance, leave laws, workplace investigations, and terminations.
- Ensure compliance with state-specific regulations (PA & CA), including, but limited too:
- California: Fair Chance Act, wage/hour rules, PTO accrual, meal/rest breaks.
- Pennsylvania: At-will employment standards, wage payment laws.
- Draft and update employee handbooks, policies, and training materials.
- Support litigation management and respond to agency inquiries (EEOC, DOL, state agencies).
- Support insurance programs for risk mitigation and cost efficiency for the company
Compliance & Risk Management
- Monitor changes in employment legislation and communicate updates to stakeholders.
- Revise and update protocols as needed to ensure compliance within the business.
- Support internal audits and investigations related to HR and contractual obligations.
- Assist in litigation management and respond to agency inquiries (EEOC, DOL, state agencies).
- Conduct compliance audits and risk assessments related to HR and contractual obligations.
- Monitor legislative changes and communicate updates to stakeholders.
- Deliver training sessions for managers on employment law compliance and contract best practices.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; licensed to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- 5-10 years of experience in contracts and employment law, preferably in a multi-state environment.
- Years of experience pre-JD will be taken into consideration if in the same field of practice.
- Strong knowledge of PA and CA employment laws and regulations.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- Ability to commercially negotiate legal documents effectively.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, internally and externally.

The Salary Range for this position is $104,000 - $168,000 annual base salary + annual performance bonus. We also off the following benefits:
