Job ID: 164194
Rank: Associate or Assistant Professor
College/School: Chicago, IL - School of Music
Position Description: .indent-list ul {list-style-position:inside;}
The DePaul University School of Music seeks a highly qualified musician and educator at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to cultivate and lead a dynamic piano program. Responsibilities for this position include directing the keyboard program; teaching applied lessons to piano majors; coaching chamber music; teaching keyboard literature; and recruiting students at the undergraduate and graduate (MM and Post-Master's Certificate) levels to grow the quality and visibility of the program. Additional areas of teaching and service may be determined depending upon school needs and the candidate's interests and expertise.
As the only full-time piano faculty member at DePaul, the successful candidate will demonstrate fluid and facile technique, breadth of and curiosity about repertoire, and an understanding of context-based growth opportunities. Special consideration will be given to candidates with a record of success in program growth and student recruitment.
The successful candidate will enjoy the unique opportunity to shape a distinctive program in alignment with the School's Strategic Plan, launched in 2025. To enrich our programs and help drive recruitment, external institutional affiliations (e.g., summer festivals for pianists) are highly valued. The DePaul School of Music particularly values colleagues who demonstrate a strategic mindset, high collaborative capacity, and dedication to the development of agile and resilient professionals.
Recognized nationally, the DePaul School of Music is a forward-thinking institution that seeks to redefine the role of conservatory-based training in contemporary society. We are in a second year of intentional strategic investment in new faculty. Our location in the cultural capital of Chicago is a tremendous asset for our programs, and our strong affiliations with world-class arts organizations (e.g. The Chicago Symphony and Lyric Opera of Chicago, through our instrumental faculty) point to growth opportunities for our school and for the faculty themselves.
