DEPARTMENT: Trenton-Mercer Airport –Maintenance
SALARY: $51,972 – $69,741
LOCATION: Ewing, NJ
SCHEDULE: M-F 7:30 A – 3:30 P
Due to theoperational requirements of the airport, this position is considered essentialfor airport operations and may be required to work outside of the regularschedule, including early mornings, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays,emergencies, and periods of inclement weather.
Employeesare expected to report for snow and ice control operations when directedand may be assigned to operate snow-removal or other airport equipment based onoperational needs and completed training/authorization.

POSITIONOVERVIEW:
TheTrenton-Mercer Airport is seeking a skilled and dependable Heating and AirConditioning Mechanic to join the Airport Maintenance team. This positionis responsible for the maintenance, repair, installation, and preventiveservicing of heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), and refrigerationsystems that support airport facilities and operations.
Working ina dynamic aviation environment, the Heating and Air Conditioning Mechanic playsa critical role in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of HVACsystems that support airport terminals, administrative buildings, maintenancefacilities, and other operational areas. The ideal candidate possesses strongtechnical expertise, troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to maintainingessential building systems that contribute to the safe and efficient operationof Trenton-Mercer Airport.
ESSENTIALDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilitiesinclude, but are not limited to:
- Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and install heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems throughout Airport facilities.
- Maintain and repair condensers, compressors, motors, heat exchangers, heat pumps, stationary boilers, cooling towers, and other HVAC equipment.
- Assemble, install, and repair piping, ductwork, and associated components used for refrigerants, steam, hot water, and conditioned air systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment to maximize operational efficiency and extend equipment life.
- Diagnose equipment malfunctions and complete repairs in a timely and effective manner.
- Overhaul and repair pumps, compressors, controls, piping, ducts, and related mechanical equipment.
- Calibrate thermostats, sensors, controls, and other HVAC system components.
- Monitor and maintain cooling towers and seasonal HVAC changeover operations, including draining water lines and preparing systems for heating or cooling seasons.
- Respond to HVAC service calls and maintenance emergencies as required to support airport operations.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and work orders utilizing computerized maintenance management systems.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations, environmental standards, and industry best practices.
- Maintain tools, equipment, materials, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
- Collaborate with Airport Maintenance staff, contractors, and other departments to support facility operations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATIONAND EXPERIENCE:
Three (3)years of experience performing maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation,air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment.
Technicalor vocational training in HVAC or a related field is preferred.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Valid EPA Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician Certification, appropriate to the equipment being serviced, as required by the Federal Environmental Protection Agency.
- Possession of a valid New Jersey driver's license may be required depending on operational needs.
- Must be able to successfully complete and maintain all airport-requiredsecurity clearances, credentials, and training necessary for access to andoperation within secured and restricted areas of the airport, including:
- Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) and other required security/background screening for issuance and maintenance of a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge.
- Airport driver training and authorization to operate vehicles/equipment on the Air Operations Area (AOA) and movement area, as applicable.
- 14 CFR Part 139 airport safety and operations training applicable to assigned duties.
- Airport wildlife hazard management/awareness training.
- Airport snow and ice control training, including training required to operate assigned snow-removal equipment.
- SIDA/security awareness training and other required airport security training.
- Any required recurring security/background screening, including applicable Homeland Security/TSA requirements.
PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS:
- Possession of a valid New Jersey Black Seal Boiler Operator License is preferred. Candidates who do not currently possess the license should be willing and able to obtain it within six (6) months of their start date.
KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of HVAC and refrigeration principles, including refrigeration cycles and temperature control systems.
- Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment.
- Knowledge of HVAC controls, piping systems, boilers, cooling towers, compressors, pumps, and related mechanical equipment.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safe work practices associated with HVAC maintenance and repair.
- Ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions and perform effective repairs.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, diagrams, and equipment specifications.
- Ability to organize work assignments and prioritize maintenance activities.
- Ability to maintain accurate maintenance records and utilize computerized maintenance management systems.
- Ability to safely operate tools, testing equipment, and specialized HVAC instruments.
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in support of airport operations.
