About This Position
ACCOUNTABILITYResponsible for setting up and closing event bars, inventory, and/or ordering liquor, maintaining a clean and welcoming environment, and assisting guests and other staff to provide a positive experience for all. The duties of this job are primarily about making connections with other people. In this job, connecting with other people is especially important: meeting new and different people on a day-to-day basis, quickly forming relationships, and using those relationships to get work done. REPORTS TO AND IS SERVED BY: Assistant General Manager & General ManagerFLSA Designation: Non-ExemptWHAT TO EXPECTDrink Preparation: Bartenders are skilled in mixing and serving a wide broad range of beverages, including cocktails, wines, beers, and spirits. You'll be expected to have knowledge of various drink recipes and techniques and be able to recommend drinks to customers based on their preferences. Customer Service: Bartenders are often the face of the establishment and are responsible for providing excellent customer service. You'll greet customers, take their orders, and engage in friendly conversation. It's important to listen to customers' preferences and ensure they have a positive experience at the bar. Cash Handling: Bartenders handle cash transactions, including receiving payments and providing change. You may also be responsible for maintaining an accurate cash register and reconciling it at the end of your shift. Bar Maintenance: Keeping the bar area clean, organized, and well-stocked is crucial. This includes restocking alcohol, garnishes, and other supplies, as well as cleaning glasses, utensils, and bar equipment. Regular maintenance of bar equipment, such as cleaning the draft beer lines or changing kegs, may also be required. Responsible for cleaning and maintaining the back of the house areas including the kitchen, back hall, storage areas, drains, shelves, cabinets, counters, storeroom, etc. after each closing and when not in use. Knowledge of Alcoholic Beverages: Bartenders are expected to have a strong understanding of different types of alcoholic beverages, including their flavors, ingredients, and serving techniques. This knowledge enables you to make recommendations, suggest pairings, and provide a memorable experience for customers. Safety and Compliance: Bartenders must adhere to legal and safety regulations related to alcohol service. This includes verifying the legal drinking age of customers, refusing service to intoxicated individuals, and complying with local alcohol laws and regulations. Upselling and Promotion: Bartenders often play a role in promoting special offers, new drinks, or events at the establishment. You may be expected to upsell and recommend premium drinks or suggest food items that pair well with customers' orders. Multitasking: Bartenders often work in fast-paced environments and must be skilled at multitasking. This includes taking multiple drink orders, preparing them efficiently, and serving them promptly while maintaining a friendly and attentive demeanor. Knowledge of Bar Tools and Techniques: Bartenders should be familiar with various bar tools and techniques, such as using shakers, strainers, muddlers, and garnishing drinks. Knowledge of basic bartending techniques, such as stirring, shaking, and layering, is essential.Conflict Resolution: Occasionally, bartenders may need to handle customer complaints or diffuse tense situations. Good interpersonal and communication skills are crucial in dealing with such instances effectively and professionally. Foundational Skills and Qualities: Strong organizational skills to manage tasks and prioritize work. Good physical stamina and the ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting and bending. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Work Expectations and Responsibilities: Willingness to adapt to a variety of tasks, including "Other duties as assigned." Participate in department meetings and maintain an open line of communication with colleagues. Obtain any required certifications necessary, as relevant to the specific job. PROUD OWNER Greet guests and staff in a friendly, welcoming manner and provide assistance when possible and as requested. Ensures the bar is set up with appropriate levels of liquor, juices, crushes, additives, soda, etc.

Bartending Certificate preferred. ServSafe Certification is preferred. Must be able to operate commercial dish machine, vacuum, carpet cleaner, and similar commercial equipment used to maintain the hotel. Be familiar with or capable of learning the computer systems and electronic machines used to carry out the tasks of this position.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50+ lbs.
