Position Summary
The Substitute Teacher is responsible for supervising students, implementing lesson plans provided by the regular classroom teacher, maintaining classroom order, and ensuring a safe and productive learning environment. Substitute Teachers may be assigned to various subject areas and grade levels within the school.
Essential Functions
- Follow lesson plans and instructional materials left by the classroom teacher
- Supervise students and maintain a positive, respectful classroom environment
- Take attendance and complete any required documentation
- Manage student behavior in accordance with school policies and procedures
- Provide support and assistance to students during class activities
- Communicate important classroom information to the regular teacher upon their return
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all students
- Follow all school policies, procedures, and emergency protocols
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times
Required
- High School Diploma or GED
- At least 25 years of age
- Ability to effectively supervise and engage high school students
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Reliable transportation and punctual attendance
- Ability to adapt to different classroom settings and instructional needs
- Commitment to maintaining a positive and professional learning environment
- Associate's degree or higher
- Previous experience working with youth, tutoring, coaching, mentoring, childcare, or education
- Experience in a school, church, nonprofit, or community-based setting
- Familiarity with classroom management practices
