Summary
The Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Religious Education is responsible for the application of a parish catechetical program(s) consisting of ages 12-18. This position will work with the Elementary Religious Education Coordinator in administrating a parish faith formation program. This position will also perform basic administrative duties related to the Faith Formation Program and will maintain files and records of students. The Youth and Young Adult Religious Education Coordinator will also connect the parents and families in the program to the larger parish community. Other responsibilities may include preparing and distributing weekly bulletin communication (both paper and electronic) to parents.
Responsibilities
1. Budget and Purchasing
- Prepare, monitor, and administer the religious education budget for middle school, high school, and youth group.
- Set program fees in consultation with the pastor.
- Prepare program purchase orders and submit to the pastor for approval and ordering.
2. Recruit and Monitor Catechists
- Advertise in the parish bulletin for catechists.
- Research other possibilities for recruiting catechists and volunteers.
- Assess the number of catechists needed for the religious education program.
- Conduct regular meetings for catechists, providing resources, formation opportunities, and planning support.
3. Curriculum Design
- Continue to build a solid program of catechesis for St. Ann Parish.
- Assess the different levels and needs of those in the catechetical program.
- Submit curriculum design and program materials to the Pastor for approval.
- Be current and up to date on the teachings and doctrines of the church.
4. Conduct Annual Religious Education Program
- Observe catechetical volunteer performances and confer privately and individually with each member on both the positive and negative aspects. Provide constructive criticism if necessary.
- Measure program results against goals set at the beginning of the program.
- Develop and use evaluation instruments after obtaining approval from the Pastor.
- Set program schedules, coordinating the calendar and facilities availability.
- Register participants and collect fees.
- Maintain attendance records of both participants and catechetical volunteers.
- Assess catechetical needs of middle school, high school faith formation, and set priorities, goals, and objectives with approval of the Pastor. All extracurricular activities, such as meetings with parents for sacramental preparation and retreats, must be planned well in advance and discussed with the Pastor before announcing.
- Plan and conduct the annual youth retreat and the Confirmation retreat.
- Develop a calendar for the year by August 31, with the pastor's approval.
- Maintain constant communication with Faith Formation families.
- Maintain constant communication and collaboration with the CRE for elementary education.
- Participate in staff meetings.
5. Oversee Sacramental Preparation Program
- Submit or record all sacramental information in the appropriate sacramental books in a timely manner for Confirmation.
6. Other Duties as Related and Assigned by the Pastor.
7. Training
- Must complete ARCHSA Safe Environment Training. This includes Completion of a Criminal Background Check, and Code of Conduct.
- VIRTUS Training that includes Protecting God's Children, Vulnerable Adult Training, and Sexual Harassment Training (renewed every three years).
Qualifications
- Active member of a Roman Catholic parish faith community. (Sometimes this requirement may be satisfied by a person who has knowledge of and is willing to function in a manner consistent with the mission of the Catholic Church).
- Undergraduate work in Theology, Catechesis or extensive parish experience as a CRE.
- Bilingual – (English and Spanish)
- Two years of parish and/or administrative office experience
- Proven experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Power Point) and Adobe Acrobat.
- Ability to communicate with various levels of staff and management
- Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays due to work an unpredictable schedule when necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to set priorities and organize work effectively and efficiently.
- Ability to compose correspondence, minutes and/or reports.
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
