BASIC FUNCTION

The Navigator is a seasoned ministry leader who primarily serves as a relational and spiritual guide who walks alongside church leaders in a prayerful, customized process of discovery, reflection, and action toward greater GC2 faithfulness. The Navigator supports aspects of this process, including promotion, resource development, guide facilitation, follow-up, and contract facilitator coordination. In addition, the Navigator builds and maintains relationships with internal and external constituencies across the Texas Baptists family, including other Navigators, ministry staff, and leaders, as well as pastors, church leaders, and other ministry partners. The Navigator will be responsible for carrying out the assigned duties within a specific geographical region of the state or other specified boundaries.

Requirements:

RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS

1. Receive specialized training on the role of Navigator within the GC2 Discovery Process and deploy training to guide regional churches through the process to increase GC2 practice and strengthen churches, ministers, and missions efforts.

2. Provide comprehensive support for the GC2 Discovery Process, including the following:
- Promotion – Promote the GC2 Discovery Process to churches and church leaders
- Resource Development – Work with other ministry staff, teams, and partners to coordinate the creation of resources related to the GC2 Discovery Process
- Facilitation – Serve as a guide to churches and church leaders moving through the spiritual process, including assisting churches in identifying customized and contextualized pathways toward greater GC2 faithfulness
- Follow-up – Follow up with churches and church leaders after they move through the process to provide encouragement, additional resourcing, and further relationship building, including repeating the process in the future
- Contract facilitator coordination – Actively coordinate the identification, recruitment, training, and management of contract facilitators who can carry out the key functions of the Navigator role, guiding additional churches and church leaders through the process

3. Build and maintain relationships with internal and external constituents across the Texas Baptists family and beyond for the purpose of kingdom collaboration.
- Internal – Closely relate and collaborate with other Navigators, ministry staff, and leadership
- External – Closely relate and collaborate with pastors, church leaders, associational, and other ministry partners

4. Provide occasional church consulting and referrals to other ministries, ministry partners, or contract ministry providers.

5. Receive continuing specialized professional development in areas including the following: church health and growth, church revitalization, coaching, consulting, and counseling.

6. Complete administrative tasks, including but not limited to setting and managing budgets and spending, coding and approving credit card purchases, submitting and approving expense reimbursements, completing performance reviews, planning and leading meetings, attending all staff chapel services, and all staff meetings.

7. Establish long-term personal relationships with Association Directors of Missions to promote, educate, and coordinate the GC2 Strong strategy.

8. Ensure that congregations in the assigned region obtain the needed resources and support available through Texas Baptists.

9. Engage pastors in conversations that help identify emerging ministry leaders capable of advancing the Great Commandment and Great Commission, including potential church-planting partners and disciple makers.

10. Immediately connect pastorless churches to the Director of Pastorless Churches at Texas Baptists.

11. Prepare and proofread letters, memos, and other correspondence accurately and promptly.

12. Answer phones promptly, take accurate messages, and respond to requests for information promptly.

13. Maintain compliance with The Baptist General Convention of Texas’ employee policies and procedures. Maintain compliance with all state and federal laws and regulatory requirements.

14. Perform other duties as required.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

NOTE: These requirements represent minimum levels in order to perform the job on a satisfactory basis. Candidates must have the ability to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the job.

1. In-depth understanding of a comprehensive field of knowledge, generally acquired through earned bachelor's and master's degrees in a related field, and 10+ years of proven related experience required.

2. Exemplary servant leadership.

3. Active membership in a church supportive of Texas Baptists during employment.

4. Commitment to Christian principles and teachings both professionally and personally.

5. A broad understanding of church health and growth in a Baptist context, including awareness of factors contributing to church decline and the ability to apply contextualized, innovative strategies for church growth.

6. Experience in coaching, consulting, and caring for pastors and churches.

7. Ability to use assessment tools to determine congregational needs and to evaluate the effectiveness of resources and services.

8. Ability to relate positively, influentially, and sensitively to a broad spectrum of persons in a variety of multi-tiered relationships and settings, including but not limited to clergy, laity, institutional staff/faculty, various Baptist organizations, churches of all sizes, cultural identities and worship styles, board and council members, Baptists of Texas and beyond.

9. Ability to relate positively and sensitively to a broad spectrum of persons from a variety of cultural backgrounds and identities and to promote a multicultural organization.

10. Ability to plan, administer, and report budgets proficiently.

11. Understanding of Scripture and theology and commitment to lifelong study and personal growth.

12. Proficiency in interpersonal and conversational skills for sharing the message of Jesus Christ at any time in an appropriate manner fitting of the person, situation, and time.

13. Ability to speak, read, and write English.

14. Excellent, professional written and oral communication skills.

15. Ability to make effective, timely, and appropriate decisions.

16. Excellent listening skills, interpersonal skills, and relationship-building skills.

17. Excellent demonstrated leadership skills necessary to appropriately influence people to achieve a desired outcome.

18. Ability to travel to various geographic locations and some overnight stays.

19. Professionalism in the workplace, including professional and accurate communication with others.

20. Ability to speak clearly and make oneself understood in face-to-face interactions and to articulate with accuracy on the telephone.

21. Ability to hear and receive verbal instructions, answer phones, and proficiently communicate in situations with some background noise.

22. Ability to effectively work under pressure and remain flexible as priorities change.

23. Ability to understand and relate to specific ideas one at a time and to the concepts behind specific ideas; ability to remember verbal and written tasks/assignments from a few hours to several-day periods.

24. Ability to concentrate on fine detail with some interruption; ability to focus attention on tasks for 45-60 minutes at a time continuously.

25. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, churches, committees, organizations, etc.

26. Excellent organizational skills; ability to multitask.

27. Proficient working knowledge of various software to include: Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Mail and web-based resources; and Salesforce.

28. Ability to use up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or 10 pounds continuously to move objects.
