The Principal Data Engineer will lead the architecture, development, and optimization of advanced data platforms while ensuring scalability, reliability, and alignment with business objectives. Key responsibilities include:
- Design and implement end-to-end data architectures, frameworks, and pipelines supporting large-scale ingestion, processing, transformation, reporting, and analytics.
- Build and optimize ETL/ELT workflows, distributed data processing systems, and data models to support business intelligence and advanced analytics.
- Develop cloud-native data solutions using technologies such as Python, SQL, dbt, AWS Glue, DMS, Airflow, Docker/Kubernetes, Snowflake, and related platforms.
- Establish engineering best practices around data quality, governance, lineage, security, privacy, performance, and reliability.
- Create and maintain monitoring, alerting, observability frameworks, and service-level objectives for critical data systems.
- Identify and resolve performance challenges while improving scalability and cost efficiency across data platforms.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to data engineers and engineering teams.
- Drive architectural decisions, evaluate emerging technologies, and lead complex technical problem-solving initiatives.
- Promote engineering excellence through CI/CD practices, infrastructure as code, automated testing, security standards, and responsible adoption of AI-powered development tools.
- Partner with software engineers, product managers, quality teams, customer success teams, and business stakeholders to define data requirements and deliver high-impact solutions.
- Support the development of analytics, machine learning, and AI-driven capabilities through robust data infrastructure.
The ideal candidate brings extensive experience designing modern data platforms, leading technical initiatives, and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams. Required qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field preferred.
- 8+ years of combined software engineering and data engineering experience focused on distributed data processing and data-intensive applications.
- 5+ years of experience designing, implementing, and maintaining reporting and analytics solutions using platforms such as Looker, Power BI, or Tableau.
- Strong expertise in Python, SQL, database optimization, data pipelines, data modeling, governance, cataloging, lineage management, and security practices.
- Deep experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP and modern data warehouse technologies including Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift.
- Proven ability to lead large-scale data initiatives and influence architecture decisions across technical teams.
- Strong understanding of data visualization principles and analytics best practices.
- Experience working in highly regulated industries, with healthcare or homecare technology experience preferred.
- Familiarity with healthcare data ecosystems such as EHR, HL7, or FHIR is a plus.
- Experience designing data platforms supporting machine learning and AI workflows.
- Hands-on experience with AI/ML technologies, large language models (LLMs), agentic development, or AI-assisted engineering tools preferred.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, collaboration, and mentoring abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a fully remote environment within US Eastern or Central time zones.
- Willingness to responsibly adopt AI tools to improve productivity and innovation.
- Competitive base salary range of $155,000 - $184,000 per year, excluding variable compensation.
