Job Description

Software Engineer - Data Insights

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Engineer - Data Insights based in Canada.

Join a collaborative engineering team focused on building technology that improves the higher-education experience for millions of students and educators. In this full-stack role, you’ll contribute to products that make classroom interactions more engaging, personalized, and effective. You’ll own projects across the software development lifecycle, from discovery and planning through development and release. The role combines hands-on engineering with experimentation, data-driven product improvement, and emerging AI technologies. You’ll work closely with Product, Design, and Engineering partners in a dynamic, cross-functional environment. This is an opportunity to solve meaningful technical challenges at scale while helping shape the future of teaching and learning.

Accountabilities
  • Own key software initiatives across the full development lifecycle, from discovery and planning through implementation, testing, and release, working closely with Product, Design, and Engineering colleagues.
  • Build and improve scalable, user-focused full-stack features that support engaging interactions between educators and students.
  • Contribute to experimentation and innovation by proposing new ideas, testing solutions, and iterating based on results and user needs.
  • Explore and apply emerging AI technologies to improve development practices, product capabilities, and day-to-day engineering workflows.
  • Collaborate within a cross-functional Scrum team to design, develop, and deliver high-quality product experiences.
  • Investigate and resolve bugs, complete individual development tickets, and contribute to the ongoing reliability and improvement of the platform.
  • Use data and product insights to identify opportunities for meaningful improvements and help deliver outcomes that benefit both students and educators.
  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, helping align teams around solutions, priorities, and product goals.
Requirements
  • 3+ years of professional experience in full-stack software development.
  • Strong frontend development skills, ideally with React, combined with backend development experience.
  • Experience with backend frameworks such as Django or FastAPI is advantageous; comparable experience with other modern frameworks is also relevant.
  • A proactive and analytical approach to problem-solving, with the ability to navigate ambiguity, ask effective questions, and make sound decisions.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for experimentation, innovation, and exploring new approaches to technology and product development.
  • Interest in using AI technologies and tools to improve engineering productivity and challenge traditional development practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including active listening and the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
  • Strong commitment to software quality, including writing reliable, maintainable, and well-tested code.
  • Ability to take ownership of work from start to finish and remain accountable for the quality and impact of delivered solutions.
  • Collaborative mindset and comfort working with Product, Design, Engineering, and other cross-functional partners.
Benefits
  • Flexible, remote-first work environment in Canada.
  • Competitive health benefits starting from day one.
  • Innovative paid time off policy designed to provide meaningful time for rest and self-care.
  • Professional learning and development opportunities across all career levels.
  • Access to a welcoming Toronto headquarters alongside remote flexibility.
  • Opportunity to work with emerging technologies, including generative AI, and see their impact on real customers.
  • Mission-driven work that directly contributes to improving teaching and learning.
  • Collaborative culture with a strong focus on customers, teamwork, performance, growth, engagement, and connection.
  • Opportunity to work with passionate customers and contribute to products used by more than 750 universities and 3 million students.
  • The chance to tackle meaningful, large-scale engineering challenges while shaping the future of higher education.
