Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Principal Software Engineer, Program Structure based in Canada.
This is a defining technical leadership opportunity focused on building the architectural foundation for complex enterprise organizations.
You’ll own a multi-quarter initiative spanning platform architecture, data isolation, permissions, workflows, and organizational structures.
The role combines deep backend engineering with product judgment and long-term architectural thinking.
You’ll evolve a live production system toward a scalable, multi-tenant model while protecting existing customer experiences.
You’ll work closely with Engineering, Product, Design, and enterprise customers to turn complex requirements into phased solutions.
Success requires influencing teams beyond your direct ownership through technical clarity, credibility, and strong communication.
This is an opportunity to shape foundational technology that enables a growing platform to serve increasingly sophisticated enterprise customers.
- Own the architecture, technical direction, and multi-quarter delivery of an enterprise organizational model supporting product lines, business units, data isolation, audit workflows, scoped approvals, and data residency requirements.
- Define durable platform abstractions that accommodate diverse and sometimes conflicting enterprise needs, prioritizing scalable general solutions over one-off customer customizations.
- Lead the evolution of a live production system toward a multi-tenant organizational structure, designing safe migration strategies and sequencing incremental delivery while maintaining customer continuity.
- Break complex technical initiatives into meaningful, independently valuable phases that deliver customer impact while progressing toward the broader architectural vision.
- Drive execution and alignment across engineering squads outside the immediate team, using technical expertise, clarity, and credibility to influence decisions.
- Partner with Engineering leadership, Product, and Design to translate long-term architectural goals into practical, phased, and deliverable plans.
- Establish technical standards, reusable architectural patterns, and engineering practices that raise the quality bar across the wider organization.
- Apply strong product judgment and engage directly with enterprise customers when needed to ensure architectural decisions reflect real-world requirements.
- Incorporate AI-enabled tools and workflows responsibly to improve engineering efficiency, problem-solving, and overall impact.
- 15+ years of deep backend software engineering experience, including ownership of complex, multi-quarter technical initiatives in fast-moving, product-oriented environments.
- Proven experience designing platform abstractions that address complex and conflicting enterprise requirements across a diverse customer base.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver large architectural changes incrementally, balancing long-term technical goals with immediate customer and product needs.
- Strong experience influencing and collaborating across multiple engineering teams without relying on direct organizational authority.
- Deep knowledge of enterprise architecture patterns, including multi-tenancy, role-based access control, data isolation, scoped permissions, cross-tenant operations, and access boundary design.
- Strong architectural judgment and the ability to evaluate trade-offs, define scalable abstractions, and make complex systems understandable to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly present complex technical concepts to engineering leaders, product teams, and customer-facing stakeholders.
- Experience with data residency, GovCloud, or similarly regulated infrastructure environments is advantageous.
- Curiosity about AI and a willingness to incorporate AI-assisted engineering practices responsibly, with sound judgment regarding their appropriate use.
- A high degree of ownership, autonomy, pragmatism, and customer focus, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and maintain momentum on long-term initiatives.
- Industry-competitive salary and equity.
- 100% employer-covered medical, dental, and vision benefits, including dependent coverage.
- Employer pension contribution.
- 16 weeks of paid parental leave for all new parents.
- Health and wellness stipend.
- Remote workspace, internet, and cellphone stipend.
- Flexible working hours and location.
- 21 days of vacation time and 80 hours of sick leave.
- 11 company-paid holidays.
- Virtual team-building activities, lunch-and-learns, and company-wide events.
- Inclusive and supportive remote work environment.
- Access to offices in San Francisco, New York City, London, Dublin, Tel Aviv, and Sydney.
