You’ll lead our IT team, own our cybersecurity program, manage our technology vendors and projects, and help shape the IT roadmap as we grow. Reporting to our Director of Digital Solutions and Analytics, you’ll work closely with department heads and Senior Management to turn business needs into practical technology solutions.

Your Schedule

Full-time, permanent, Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at our Edmonton office, with occasional travel to our branch locations. Some overtime and after-hours work may be required, particularly during system outages or critical incidents.

Why AFD:

  • Great health and insurance benefits – medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, AD&D – because we believe in taking care of yourself.
  • Discount on fuel.
  • Career development.
  • Paid orientation & training.
  • Personal/Sick Paid Days.

What you will do day-to-day:

  • Lead, coach, and develop our IT team, including the IT Service Desk Lead and Senior Business Systems Analyst.
  • Build and maintain the IT strategy and roadmap with the Director of Digital Solutions and Analytics.
  • Own our cybersecurity program, from access control and endpoint protection to security awareness training and incident response.
  • Oversee our infrastructure across all branches, including networks, servers, cloud services, Microsoft 365, and end-user devices.
  • Oversee support for our business systems, including Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, alongside our Senior Business Systems Analyst.
  • Maintain and test our backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans.
  • Manage IT projects from requirements through implementation and prioritize technology requests from across the business.
  • Select and manage technology vendors, software partners, and managed service providers.
  • Prepare and manage the annual IT budget, and report weekly to Senior Management on projects and service desk performance.
  • Develop and enforce IT policies and standards, and coordinate IT onboarding and training for staff.

What you need to succeed:

  • 5+ years’ experience in information technology, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or team lead role.
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365, server and cloud environments, networking, and endpoint management.
  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity practices and frameworks.
  • Experience managing IT projects, budgets, and vendor relationships.
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical audiences.

Extra skills and Knowledge:

  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or another ERP system.
  • Experience in the fuel, petroleum distribution, or transportation industry.
  • Relevant certifications such as ITIL, Microsoft, CompTIA Security+ or CISSP, or PMP.
